It's more about who you know and promotion than anything else. Talent has something to do with it, sure, but even if you sound terrible it can be spun into popularity. If you want people to know about you, you probably won't do it the traditional way of just talent and a producer. It probably isn't a conspiracy, least not in the NWO type of way. It's the conspiracy of money. Artists can easily be manufactured and people don't care.
