My friend told me every individual who has a mental illness has a bad entity following them around. Is this true? Do you believe people are depressed because there is a spookey casper after them?

I think maybe the spooky ghosty goo follows them because they have the mental illness, not the other way around. Dark entities tend to flock to negative things, not cause them.
