If nirvana/the Tao/paradise is so great why do we cling to illusion and the body?

Nirvana is often misrepresented as a eastern counterpart of Heaven.

Nirvana is actually very different and a very personal journey, not as simple as "living a good/bad life = good/bad afterlife.

Nirvana is the "blowing out" of desire, a very difficult thing to do because everyone thinks their true self(often mistaken as the ego) will be given a special place to exist forever.

But when you die your ego dies too, and you are left without any grip or link to this reality anymore(the bardo), the fear and trepidation one feels in this state will be enough for anyone to try to reignite their desire as they are circling the drain, to return to samsara in one form or another.

Those who spend their lives comprehending these experiences are not so easily scared in this state, since most will spend their lives attempting to extinguish desire, therefore they will not be so pained with the loss of such things; they will accept the fact that this reality was in fact the illusion and cross the event horizon to that place which no one returns. And few have glimpsed at through monumental intakes of drugs, meditation, hypnosis, etc.
Hope this helped, anon.

The short version of this answer is that it's easier to avoid Nirvana
>>
>>17778851
Nothing about nirvana is great.

You, and people like you, are the kind of ignorant peasants that keep shitty mentalities in existence. Congrats on wasting time with such a trivial and pointless post.

>>17778851
Because the body is the most tangible form of evidence you truly exist. It is also the base block of transcendent existence, and as your perception of reality develops, you'll either accept it as all you are, or, you'll begin to identify it as a stepping stone towards what you could potentially be.

>nirvana/the Tao/paradise

None of these things is like the other, dude. Get a clue or stop trollin.
>>
Tao is not a place, not even a state of mind
it just is.
you're living it now
>>
>>17778990
Souls, consciousness, whatever you want, are projections into matter from some unconditioned substrate. This source state is variously interpreted as the Tao, the extrasamsaric nirvana/dharmakaya, the Neoplatonic One, and the Godhead. That which is beyond all categories by definition

Because of ignorance. It is possible to know that something is better but not realize it. If it's not real in your head then you won't act like its real with your heart/body.
>>
>>17778950
Nice. But that's not the short answer of what he ssaid. It's a completely different combination of words to say something different. Don't try to boil things down to the simplest words if it leave something essential out.'

>>17778990
They are identical.
>>
You can not have this without that. They imply eachother, so we presently we are here in this and at the same time we are there outside of time, always. Be grateful knowing that all is God and no experience is outside the whole; nirvana or hell- one and the same, shift perspective and be whole.

>>17778851
We cling to the body because we have 3.5 billion years of genetic information telling us to avoid death at all cost.
>>
Because it is necessary for you, and Nirvana and Samsara are one.
>>
we is a dumb pronoun.

next time say YOU do.

Nirvana is bullshit. Literally anything and literally everything are better than oblivion.

>nirvana = oblivion

Stop

Why does an alcoholic continue to drink, knowing that they are destroying themselves all the while?

It is the same.
>>
>>17781763
Yeah but that's the real question here: if everything's go great, why would he have felt the need to start drinking in the first place?
>>
>2016
>still not realizing you are the Tao pretending not to be
>implying anything you do is you doing it

You are a slave to it. Just accept it's love and blessings and ride it like a wave.
>>
>>17781519
Sounds like somebody has an incomplete understanding of the concept of nirvana
>>
>>17781792
You've misunderstood. This world is the drink. This flesh is the drink. Passion, lust, greed and hunger, that is the drink. And it's all great fun for a while, but sooner or later it starts to rot away at your liver, your loved ones turn away because they can't watch you kill yourself anymore and you either have to quit drinking and clean yourself up, or die sad and alone.

Why we pick up the "drink?" You have to research the twelve nidanas. To summarize, we live our lives full of greed hatred and ignorance. When we die, all of this is torn away and we are left alone and terrified. So we cling onto this world because it is all that we know, we are absolutely terrified of anything else. It is this clinging to the material world that is what we're referring to as "picking up the bottle". We keep coming back because we don't know any better. The drunk can't stay sober because they've been drinking for so long that the thought of feeling anything other than numb is too overwhelming. They give it a shot, can't handle it and relapse.

It's a shoddy metaphor with plenty holes, but there is no such thing as a perfect analogy. Do more research and suspend all prejudices.

Whatever you believe, I promise you with all my heart that there is something beyond that is far greater than this worldly life.

I know all this m8. My question why this principle responsible for manifestation but unmanifest itself should choose to descend into matter.

Why is there ignorance in the Absolute? How could the Absolute hunger for anything, or be seduced by matter?

Only satisfactory answer is that manifestation is just the play of shakti. We do this because we can, fuck it, right? Just some people get too wrapped up in the game.

It's either that or reality, the absolute, whatever THIS is, is flawed at the root, craving for something outside of Itself that does not exist by definition

>Only satisfactory answer is that manifestation is just the play of shakti. We do this because we can, fuck it, right? Just some people get too wrapped up in the game.

This appears to be the case. If we didn't get too wrapped up in the game, it wouldn't be a game worth playing.

Taking something away without being comfortable with the transition is hard. We don't want to have nothing and it is often easy to cling to what we have because it is known and comfortable.
