I had this happen, except I deactivated my fb account years prior. One day I get an email saying it was reactivated and in order to even log back in and delete the fucking thing, they needed state-issued ID.

Granted they tell you to block certain info (address, etc). I did it, changed the main email address to a burner and then deleted it again.

Then again there's no point in "deleting" an account when they can reactivate it whenever they choose to. I must've hit some government red-flag somewhere and they needed my info after that.

Targetted advertising is how these companies make money. You offered your personal info in exchange for certain services. What do you have to hide anyway? The fact that you smoke weed? What people dont understand about the internet is that any device connected to it is inherently insecure. As far as the communication aspect of it, look at it this way. Sure, there are various methods of encryption that are pretty effective in theory. But if you can get access to either the device that encrypted the message, or the device that is set up to decrypt it, then you can easily decrypt a copy of the message without either the sender or recipient ever knowing. If you know what a keylogger is, you know nothimg is ever secure.
