Is there a limit to human suffering? I ask because im intrigued by the question of "just how bad could things get?"

Just when I think i've dreamt up or witnessed the most vile, cruel, soul crushingly putrid, malice filled, and torturous situation, theres always something to top it.

Just how bad would the deepest sublevel of hell be? Would it be akin to pic related? Do we even have the ability to comprehend such extreme depravity and horror?

I doubt there's many things that can top absolute seclusion (no outside stimuli whatsoever). It's no wonder that the institution that holds the most dangerous "enemies of state" that the U.S. has caught, only allows minimal (less than an hour) of any human interaction whatsoever. Built in such a way that it is practically impossible to kill yourself inside that your cell.

Pain can inspire people to be headstrong in who they are and their cause. Seclusion breaks everyone. At some point you'll forget your causes and on some long enough timeline you'll forget who you are. Eons of absolute seclusion and you'd forget you were even a person.

One of my personal favorites. Not too long and worth the read. Being forced into "your hole" seems like rock bottom. I am so disturbed by how "dark" things could get
>>
>>17758761
There's no limit to suffering. The upper limit of all possible emotions is perfection and unity. That's never gonna happen, and when it did, it was only as good as it was. There is no lower limit. You can find new ways to suffer, new brands of horror, new fears and regrets. There's no true limit to suffering, but each soul shatters at a specific point.

God help the souls that have no such threshold.

(Lovecraft knew the truth.)

Same with me m8. I've watched every sick video on there and other sites. Im really starting to think that this physical reality we're currently in is some kind of hell, temporary or not. You can be stabbed, beheaded, burned, beaten with baseball bats, raped in front of your family, drowned etc.
We in the west are so lucky we've overcome the baseline hellish ness of most of the world.
I've got a compassionate heart as well, and try to stay on the sunny side, but it's tough sometimes.

The fuck is up with that video? The title says "Prisoner burned with boiling plastic and forced to eat the flesh of a dead body" but one guy is clearly getting off on the whole thing. The other guy, the one that the molten plastic is being dripped on, is clearly alive. Nobody is dead in that video, nor does any "eating" take place.
>>
>>17758947
There's another part to that video, where they cut off his hand, and make him eat his own fingers. You can see how mentally broken he was as he was chewing them.

And if there is, it's a physical limit. The mind can always be rebuilt to tear down again given time.

Pic related, our understanding of suffering is completely human. Imagine what a higher power could do if it really wanted to

physical, physchological, emotional.. there's so much suffering in this world evn nature sucks
>>
>>17758974
I saw the body, it looked plenty animated to me, considering it was bobbing up and down at certain points. Granted, that was probably because of the poor lighting and someone was flopping the body up and down. I still maintain that half the video looks hilarious, with the victim stroking the guy's back up and down.

>>17758968
So this dude is eating his own fingers? Why does he seem so calm throughout the thing?
>>
>>17758996
>So this dude is eating his own fingers? Why does he seem so calm throughout the thing?

Because he's been mentally and physically broken. He's a husk of a human being from the searing pain of molten plastic stinging his nerves, and what I'd assume to be non stop beatings.
>>
>>17758996
The second body is probably already dead, judging by how little the body moves when the hot plastic touches his back. The other guy is just trying to use it as cover.

>>17758856
About the video: It seems to have been recorded in prison, there are people in the background that shout "violador" at the beginning of the video (0:11) , so it is probably some violence shit against rapists (seems to happen quite often in those prisons). Someone is bringing water, probably to wash him up ("ahí viene el agua" heard many times)
There is mention of a "niña" at the end , a girl. He asks if they are gonna take her ("entonces tú te la llevas no?") and asks for her to be untied because she is tied too tight ("desamarra la niña, ve como está apretadita la barriguita, vela" "la qué?" "la niña" ) so I'm not entirely sure if this was recorded in prison or what
>>
>>17758833

>>
>>17759050
I guess the fact that he seems to be stroking the guy's back in a sexual manner half the time is just a really inappropriate coincidence.

But are you saying that they're doing this shit to a rapist? I've read and reread your post and I can't tell if this is happening because the guy is a rapist and he's asking about his rape victim or what.

Admittedly I am pretty stoned right now.

Have nothing to contribute with scary pics or stories, but there is conceptual bottom to suffering. Basically, as suffering is disorder and destruction, there can only be destruction when there's still something left to destroy.

If, however, someone kept rebuilding you mentally and physically to repeat tortures, I think our brains wouldn't register pain anymore on the same level.

So there's the philosophical takes on it. In this life, things can get what we naively call "hellish," as seen in the boiling plastic video.

In Hell I found myself on the surface of a river of humans and their shit - being rapidly clawed down into it by my peers, the others down there before I. I knew what was going to happen. I'd be pulled down into the writhing nudes my clothes so shredded off and eaten. As they clawed and ate at me. Our only drink piss and diarrhea of our neighbors no drink but that and blood - eons of frothy mutual hate slightly lubrificating each of us from each other.

>>17760141
You were to be pulled down undying but being eaten by hunger you'd be eating the others as they ate you. Sexually prodded by some one seeking some kind of release - like using a back fire in the face of an inferno, a ludicrious path but none the less as no other option seemed to exist, undying you'd be pulled down losing skin then organs bones gnawed and crushed by the weight of newly added above - slitting the shit of others forced to drink as you force them. At the bottom - blink! - you ceased to exist. It takes forever to get there and you stay that way even longer

>>17760026
I'm not even talking about that. Doing that repeatedly would only create a balanced karmic reaction, because the broken soul will feel as much healing and relief in being mended as they will in the suffering that breaks them. They just grow used to the constant back and forth and they just end up gaining tolerance/getting stronger because of it. It ends up taking more and more time to inflict enough suffering to break them, and you need a constant pool of new people to heal them. You can't be both the abuser and the true healer. All the abuser can do is temporarily play the role of false healer.

I'm saying there's a point where a soul breaks and they literally can't feel how horrific their situation is. Their threshold for pain has been reached and they can't feel any more. They're just kind of zombies at that point.

The real problem comes with souls that don't just break at some point. Usually it's a result of having a strong/indomitable will. The upside is having a strong mind, but the downside is that your strong mind has a massive threshold. It's like if every being in existence were omnipotent.

Most of them would lose sanity and end up as eldritch abominations after if not a short period, then a very, very long one.

Either heaven had been infinite and there'd been no need for hell or hell had been infinite and the fleeting nature of perfect unity was the only way heaven could exist. That "God" should have ever had something to judge negatively tells us what reality is truly made of.

Impure horror.

The mind would deteriorate. The brain may be alive, but it has absolutely no input, and they can't even scream without lungs.

The mind would lose the relative connections needed to make something "terrible" in a relatively short time without reinforcement from their environment.

Could there be such thing as perfect disorder (suffering)?
>>
>>17760718
That doesn't work. For one we do in fact have ape level humans, they aren't exactly rare. We've as a species probably maxed out how intelligent a human cane be a couple of times just at random. A different biological configuration and different genetic predispositions can easily be vastly superior.
>>
>>17761613
Total disorder is a very real and achievable state. It's called the heat death of the universe.

And for what it's worth, the total negation of everything seems like a good contender for perfect suffering. But everything is neutralized.
>>
>>17761697
not to mention with chimps they are basicly near the human levels as money and things like this can be taught to them in the same ways humans can learn it without words but when introducing money they don't have the higher knowlage to not cause chaos amongst themselves but rather quickly become co sumed by greed
>>
>>17760833
Neither does Poland, what's your point?
>>
>>17761613
No. Disorder doesn't have limitations. Order does.

Prefect unity requires everything in existence to be in the perfect place. Disorder exists when even a single particle is out of place. Without everything being perfect, perfect unity stops.
>>17761697
>ape level humans
[citation needed]

Don't just say it. I obviously haven't encountered a human at the level of other great apes. Show me a reason to believe that human intelligence varies by a wide enough margin to be physiological in origin.

>different biological configuration and different genetic predispositions can easily be vastly superior
Not if intelligence is independent of physiology.
>>17761710
Measured thermodynamic entropy and disorder in its metaphysical sense are two different things.
>everything is neutralized
Then it's not suffering.
>>17761714
That suggests that stupidity is physiological and can be evolved away. After enough evolution, the entire species can socially benefit from the calm and collected intelligence of the neoalpha males.

From a scientific standpoint there should conceivably be an end to pain. I know a lot of people in here are like "there is no end" but that is mostly anecdotal. Just because they have not found an end, does not mean there is one.

example; we know that fire destroys nerve clusters. So if you have enough trauma to your biological "pain detection" systems then yes, you stop feeling pain. Similarly when people go through heavily traumatic experiences in their life such as repeated and prolonged detainment and rape, we see them enter a catatonic state from which they tend to become unresponsive.

While there is some wiggle room within these concepts, it is not great. I would hypothesize that beyond "life is pain, there is no end to my depression" there is in-fact a natural threshold for pain perception.
>>
>>17758856

>>17758761
I had a gall bladder attack once. It lasted hours and was, to me, 10 out of 10 on the pain scale. I could not comprehend worse pain. It felt like I was being ripped apart from the inside. It's hard to describe why it was so bad... Nerve endings I didn't even know I had were seemingly sending out their loudest signals, and just when I thought I couldn't take any more there would be a surge to the absolute limits of pain sending me moaning and writhing... My face was a wreck of burst capillaries for a week after from all the wincing.

For perspective, they gave me a shot of morphine which took the pain down to an 8 out of 10... still worse than anything I could remember experiencing in my life, but after what I'd gone through was just absolutely paradise. Later on, after the surgery, the connecting tissue between my organs would pull and tear with every little movement I made. Both sharp and dull pains ranging from 3 to 7 (I stayed away from painkillers at this point, didn't trust myself to not get addicted), but again, these were pale shadows compared to the actual attack.

It left me pretty PTSD about the whole thing but it also put pain into perspective. I mean, most torture methods I've heard of seem... "manageable" in comparison. The frustration would be just the damage (loss of the use of appendages, being crippled, etc)... psychologically that stuff would bother me more than the pain. If someone were stomping on my balls repeatedly it would hurt, but really I'd just be more annoyed at how tough it would be to walk, piss, or fuck from then on. The pain itself wouldn't be the real source of suffering.

At least my anatomy teacher confirmed it with her own personal story of babysitting a spoiled brat who threatened to hold her breath in if she didn't get her way and "die" (though the teacher knew full well she'll just start breathing as soon as she passes out)

Problem is I imagine it'd be difficult to not breath when in pain/getting beaten and at this point, torture is basically a perfected art (to prevent the victim from fainting)

The hellraiser concept of extreme, personalized pain leading to transcendence is quite interesting.

The worse thing I've ever seen is the inverting of the spectrum, but if you really want to see hell look around you. Hell, even our government researched into the limits of man...kind of scary when you think about it.

Unit 731 comes to mind

It's been tried. Doesn't really work. The IRL thought behind this was that you could reach "Nirvana" with the sudden injection of massive amounts of pain... but nope. Was just a theory.

Awesome first 2 movies though.

Quit being a drama queen. The world is exactly as you perceive it. It has infinite amounts of pain and pleasure. Infinite. So decide where your focus will be and fuck the rest.

Any sources to this "pain induced nirvana?" Sounds interesting. To me it would seem that reaching your upper limit pain threshold would lead to a shutdown rather than an opening of the mind

It's his own hand.

Yes. The body goes into shock and releases chemicals into the brain, dopamine, serotonin. I've broken my nose and some bones and barely felt them, the body has mechanisms to fight pain

I'm an xray tech, not a doc but yea from what I know the body goes into shock when it comes to real injury

But this doesnt take into account perfected forms of torture in which the upper pain threshhold is not truly reached. Pain can be prolonged
>>
>>17762572
I had not considered that. I imagine over time though as the nerves deteriorate from over use and natural deterioration from age, the pain would lessen
>>

Let us hope this is the case anon. Of course this whole thread is purely speculation. "The upper limit of pain and suffering" is of course a question we will not be able to answer on an anomymous anime image site
>>
>>17758761
Nonexistance with conciousness is the highest level of suffering. To not be or influence whatsoever amd yet still observe is truely maddening.
>>
>>
>>17765579
No, it's fine in small doses. It's only when it's been prolonged that it becomes sheer agony.

>physical, physchological, emotional.. there's so much suffering in this world evn nature sucks
That's why it's up to us to make it not suck, you apes.

Progress is a collection of individual efforts, not some big giant thing that comes swooping in to save the day. It's because a bunch of little people choose the right thing to do, and the cumulative effect of that is social change for the better.

>there can only be destruction when there's still something left to destroy.
Are you a scientist? because this concept, a true understanding of the 2nd law of thermodynamics, is what makes scientists who really get it, fearless.
