So this person has enough money for a smart phone, and monthly payments, yet chooses to live in a hobo tent? Sound like they have their priorities straight.
>>
>>17746780
What do you do, when law enforcement is DOWN TO CLOWN?!
>>
>>17747077
Maybe, and I need you to follow me on this one, I don't make enough money for an apartment? Hell just maybe there's things like credit checks and cosigners - something you'd probably know fuck all about - that might make something as leasing an apartment difficult for someone with no credit history?

Fifty bucks a month for cell phone service does not equal enough money for a place to live.
>>
>>17747077
Naw man, bums in cali get "free" phones.... thanks OBAMA
>>
>>17747114

>>
Other humans, animals, weather itself.

>>
>>17747111
so you messed up your credit, and still pay fifty dollars a month for a cell phone plan? Not including how much money you spent on the smart phone itsself. If you're paying for this luxury you must have some form of income. Who do you contact in the wilderness? Various deer, or rabbits?
>>
>>17746749
https://youtu.be/yenqLqOpYZc
>>
>>17747118
$10 monthly phone and a cheapass laptop paired with free wifi will get you literally the same thing while allocating an additional $40 a month for whatever. You can also pretend you live a gritty cyberpunk life to pass the free time that comes with not working enough to find success in this day and age.
>>
>>17747136
I didn't mess up my credit. I have no credit. If I applied for an apartment tomorrow and slapped 1k on the table like it was my dick I would still need a 'co-signer' to sign the lease with me.
I.E. I have to find someone whos willing to take a chance of pissing their good credit away for a hobo they met at a church last sunday.

Smart phones are actually pretty cheap nowadays anon. The one I had for a year up until a week ago costed 30 dollars from walmart.

Im not understanding why you're asking me who I contact in the wilderness. So none.
>>
>>17747147
I already have a laptop. I just personally love the luxury of watching porn and spooky videos from the comfort of my tent.
>>
>>17747157
Not all places will request a credit check for an apartment, shoot when I was in university I never was asked about it, and I didn't have any credit at all. I'm not trying to be mean, it just sounds like your're making excuses. If I was a homeless hobo at the mercy of meth heads and bears, I wouldn't be spending any money on a phone or internet. Every cent would be going to get a place to live in.

Again the whole cyber punk trope living along side flea squirrels sounds kinda cool. I hope you're an elite haxor taking down the system or something. Best of luck to you.
>>
>>17747077
>>17747136

>>
>>17747077
$100 for a decent smartphone and $50 a month buys you a cellphone with unlimited talk, text, and data
Then factor in food and the occasional pair of pants
And washing those pants since there is no home to go to
We'll say that all together comes to $100 a month if you're REALLY good at shopping + a $100 one time spend
vs
Atlanta Average Rent. As of February 2016, average apartment rent within 10 miles of Atlanta, GA is $1376. One bedroom apartments in Atlanta rent for $1183 a month on average
This figure doesn't include food and utilities
>>

Do you live near a cemetary anon? If you're bored you can steal a fuckton of salt packets from gas stations and sell them to ghosts in cemeteries..
>>
>>17747199
You people are fucking idiots. When you're living as a hobo in the fucking wilderness you don't need a smart phone. A hundred dollars a month is fucking expensive for a luxury item that you don't need. I'm actually not surprised this person lives in a tent, he obviously doesn't know the difference between necessities and entertainment.
>>
>>17747109

>>
>>17747248
>A hundred dollars a month is fucking expensive for a luxury item that you don't need.
No, the phone bill is $50 a month which is significantly easier to come up with than rent
The other $50 in that $100 a month figure is cheap food and potential clothing/washing costs
Generally internet access is needed in some way for job applications and calls. I suppose instead of a smartphone one could get a $30 a month cheap flip phone for calls and use the library internet, but I'm not sure how much that is.
Even then rent alone usually runs people at least $200-400 a month

If you have an income or are a begger then nonperishable food and the occasional fresh food, plus restaurants are your best friend. Bonus for coupons. If you have absolutely no income and can't beg for some reason, look up primitive hunting techniques. Don't get caught. Soup kitchens are universal for food, get there early
>when not to stare at the river's reflection
Depends on the lake. I have this weird thing with water over 1 foot deep so i don't ever bother with anything like that. Also night time

Regional. Near me is bears and panthers and hillbillies. Free camp sites means as long as I occasionally move around I'd be fine. If you're in the city. Well, then people are going to be your problem. Oh and raccoons want everything you have.

the / / / means an unsafe area, such as a trainyard, field, or bridge.
the diagonal T 'keep away' is more like "theres something here that doesnt want you here so stay out of trouble by keeping away"
the two versions of get out fast i don't know

Stay safe.

>>
>>17749248
Yeah I mean it's possible but I haven't had anyone even try anything yet. People value their lives and their families lives too much to risk them.
>>
>>17747157
Here in central Florida, no landlord has asked about my credit.

Get yerself to the Sunshine State and a trailer park. Slap your $750 on the table ($475/mo rent + deposit) and they'll smile and get you your key, as long as you have a good line when they ask where your income comes from (anything that can be visualized as remotely steady should work). Feel free to say "disability" because that equals several hundred a month, guaranteed income.
>>
>>17749170
The best is the keys. Food falls out of the trees. Sometimes it might pile right 7p to your knees.

The worst is Amarillo. The only homeless folks who get by there are the armadillos.

Nothing really paranormal outside of the Altamaha River Monster. Occasional sightings of Bigfoot or the Skunk Ape.

Just the usual shit: mosquitoes, feral hogs/dogs, multiple species of pit vipers (eg. cottonmouth, eastern diamondback, etc.), poisonous spiders (Brown Recluse, Black Widow).

A hunter killed a Florida Panther as far north as Troup County (Columbus) but that's been 8 years ago and they haven't found any across the state since.

I think I read that outside of Alaska and Texas (or maybe Washington?), Georgia has the most wooded acreage in the US. Those Finding Bigfoot homos didn't even want to spend the night in our woods when they came to Georgia to investigate. They were far too creeped out by it.

Before I got married, I would camp alone very often and at all times of the year. I once camped on Johns Mountain in northwest Georgia a few years back and left because I got the strangest feeling of being watched. I had made camp and already started dinner when I finally decided I was leaving after I finished eating. I was camped on the southeast face of the mountain which faces a massive WMA. The mountain itself is in the middle of a fairly decent size area of the Chattahoochee National Forest.

Anyways, I got home and for shits and giggles I looked up the area for any BFRO reports. Sure enough, it had more reports than anywhere in the state going all the way back to the 1970s. I didn't see or hear anything but I have never had that feeling before or since. I always camp with my pistol and a rifle but even then I did not feel safe in the woods.
>>
>>17750083
Of course I carry a fucking pistol. I carry 2 actually. One in a shoulder holster and one on my leg. Depending on the area (if im hunting appalaichan campers or hikers) I'll have a mossberg 500 that I'll take with my duffle supplies and use that to initiate contact. I've been doing this for about 8 years now, I'm well prepared. I don't just go in the woods randomly and follow a family to a campsite nonono. I've become quite tactical about it all and very efficient. I try not to murder people because that's an easier way to get caught but I do leave them stranded so that I'm gone by the time they ever get anywhere to report. If they die from lack of provisions and survival skills so be it. If they want to fight back I will not hesitate to fire on them but I don't like to draw the attention from gunshots if I don't have to or I don't know that I'm particularly safe to get away
>>
>>17750150

Getting robbed in the woods, then having multiple ones in the same area or various similar roberies in various areas, people are going to be putting up a national alert telling people not to fucking go out into the woods without being prepared to run into a cuck with a gun.
Hell mountain men who only come out of the woods a few times a month get in the news, and they don't even hurt anyone

Oh wow. Pigeon Mountain isn't far from John's Mountain at all. Beautiful part of Georgia. That whole slice of northwest Georgia is great. I actually proposed to my wife at Cloudland Canyon.

As for the story, not much beyond what I shared I guess. I'll try? It was early, early Spring. In fact, I remember being pissed at how much pollen there was on the leaves and on my gear. I set up camp mid afternoon. Went to the creek at the base of the mountain to fill up. Came back and started to gather wood. I like fires all night because of mosquitos and the like. I remember the wind was not too bad but steady enough that I was going through firewood like crazy. I had just started boiling water for an early dinner 4ish (sun would be going down in about an hour and a half) when I really took my first break to look around and soak it all in.

If you ever go to Johns Mountain, I was camped about 200 yards off of the road. Shortly after you enter the road to the top of the mountain it makes a sharp right and down the hill to the creek. At that sharp right, I was camped at 10' o clock position.

Anyways I noticed two things. One it was far too quite. This was still a few months before fawning but there was no reason for there to be almost no wildlife sound. That unnerved me because this wasn't my first time camping that area. I had been there just weeks prior.

The other thing that was unnerving was that I was completely alone. When I got there, I drove to the top just to take photos. No one there. I passed no one on the way back. I had heard no activity on the gravel road either. I also saw no one on the Pinhoti Trail (which was across from me, maybe 100 yards?).

Cont.
>>
>>17756365

So my water stars to boil and I dumped in some dried meat and noodles and between that and the breeze, I hear nothing. Never experienced anything like it in my life. I've camped in just about every spot in North Georgia all the way down to Oconee and Jackson. I would say I'm fairly competent with our outdoors. That's when the sensation hit me: you're being watched.

As I said, I carry firearms with me but that's because of humans. I camped in Suches once and did so right in the middle of a poachers baited area. Wasn't pleasant when he showed up. Anyways, I had literally no reason to be afraid but for some reason I was. Having two firearms on me meant nothing. Now I'm not saying I heard a voice in my head saying get out or anything crazy like that but I just got a feeling over me that I shouldn't be there. I don't scary easy and I've never felt unsafe amongst nature so I didn't bother questioning it. I didn't want to spend the rest of the night like this so I finished cooking, ate, and packed up and left.

I read reports on BFRO in the area when I got back. A few were eye witness sightings. Creepy stories. IIRC one couple were out in the woods one night and saw something moving towards them. Another reported hearing loud screams at their direction. I haven't been back in the area since. That was 2013.

Not sure if it counts as a cryptid, but Flordia Pathers roam the swampy parts of Georgia. People will have tracks, sightings, etc, but unless there's a body, the dept of natural resources will say it's not there. They are endangered, and if you say there's Panthers, there would be a lot they would have to do to accommodate their environment. They are there though, if rare. I've never seen them, but lots of sightings from farmers in the area, and I've heard them at night. So that's a cover up.

Sometimes they do end up dead. Folks say they ran up from Florida and aren't native. Don't believe it. I'm sure they will be extinct soon though.

Alot of people said cops. Many communities (most) in the south are almost ran by local churches. It's very tight knit. A lot of the cops in small towns go to the same church as the judges and other officials. There are assaults/shootings by cops that are held down or covered up. If he's a white male and doesn't do anything stupid he should be fine.

Just wanted to point out some things in the South the government tends to cover up.

Anon's dubs speak the truth

A lot of rural towns really south are like this; everybody knows everybody and they will look out for eachother. If Billy Bob Blue's son gets caught up in something, it ain't often it'll get reported cept if another resident is harmed. And when it comes to outsiders, it'd be best to cause no trouble less you're really just itching for some. It's not like you'll go missing but accidents happen..

I've no idea exactly where your friend is OP, but if it is the SE then it's real simple:
> Don't stay in town too long, a few days at the most. The longer you stay the more attention you'll attract.
> Snakes are your biggest concern in the woods, hogs are a problem but just don't spook em. Bears ain't been in south GA in a very long time so don't worry too much; gators are hard to find outside Okefenokee.
> If he's an /x/phile then expect Skunkape and maybe a Hogzilla, it's been a long while since the last one.

I did a lot of paddling in the Oakie Fanokey swamps when I growing up Georgia. I was always obsessed with cryptos, bigfoot most of all, of course, and I remember my dad telling me that around the swamps, there were local legends of "Pigfoot". I can't remember if he was actually half pig, or if he just ate pigs, but uh. There's that.

Haha. Were you down there when they had that wildfire on the Panhandle? We could occasionally smell the smoke all the way in Atlanta. Can't imagine being right next to it.

>Is there anything in this part of the world he needs to be worried about?
By this order:

1) Cold winter and having warm clothes
2) Food supply
3) Heavy rains/winds (drying clothes in the body in fucked up)
4) Humans stealing or destroying the fruit of his work or essential things
5) Wild animals stealing food
6) Infuriating a wild animal (they're more afraid of you than you of them)

Shouldn't this shit be in the sports board?

I must admit my memory is very poor compared to when I was younger so I can't quite recall. There were quite a few times where the entire town (everything from the townhouses to the farmlands) was literally enveloped in smoke. It seemed like normal fog until you smell the sulfur and sensitive folks were coughing up. I was told it was just wildfires out in the swamps that caused this. These lasted maybe a day at most.

An older friend of mine claimed when he was a kid in the 80s, there was a BAD fire.
> He wakes up for school, looks out and it's just Gray. Literally gray, couldn't see more than a few feet at best. Air smells like "ruined barbeque" and tastes like ash.
> Bus comes and just crawls at a snails pace cuz can't see shit. Traffic is a nightmare, people walk into the road; I wanna say a few old folks even died cuz they were cut off from help.
> Shit lasted a full fucking WEEK. People just holed up in their houses until the power went out, by then it thinned out enough for people to try walking. County now takes swamp fires seriously.

He absolutely refuses to play Silent Hill games cuz it brings up memories of that shit. He says the darkness was the worst part of the whole ordeal, as he claims it blocked out the Sun... So fuck that shit ya know?

On the other end, during my time there, there was a quite literal shitstorm. I'll be glad to share if anyone's interested in a stupid story.

Ah yeah. I'm sure they are common. I guess we up north only realized it when it affected us. I did find the Wiki article about it though if you're interested:

I was wrong. It was the Okefenokee area and not really the panhandle.

> The air smelled like pure methane, like a busy outhouse on a hot day. As if every animal in the world just shat everywhere!

> Our Lord and Savior, Cool Bus, comes and I rush in for my life. I will never be more grateful to A/C than I was that day.
> This continues for several more days, prompting an investigation by the county Health dept. Nobody figured it out til a month later.

Long story short it turns out the waters from the Hurricane had flooded out the town's sewage system (this is still a problem, check their papers site) which seeped into the local swamps. Besides fucking up a ton of fish and frogs, this poo water got caught up during evaporation, stored in the clouds, and dropped during the last storm. The contaminated water landed on every surface in town and once it dried, released the built up methane into the air. It took a week or so for nature to purge it out, but my god did everything stink.

Tl;dr: Hurricanes can cause literal shitstorms.

That's not how that works. Things don't stay in solution after evaporation.
That's Elementary School levels of science, you have no excuse for not understanding it.
