It's a tub with smooth walls and a pebbled, non-skid pattern at the floor. This pattern has been used in a lot of applications, such as commercial restroom wall paneling, bathtubs, shower pans, etc. The water seems to be coming down as if from a showerhead, and the sound of the water comes from within an enclosed area, like a bathroom. The tub drain explains why it never fills up. Before the phantom bubble moves, you can see a still black bubble literally pop. There are a few visible bubbles that "grab" onto the texturing of the tub. Some stay, a small one pops, and another moves... then pops, then the big popular bubble makes it's famous move. The blackness is the bubble picking up the surrounding darkness in it's reflection. This is 99.9% a bathtub, in my opinion.

Me again. I remember when I first watched the culmus video, I thought the box fan looked too modern to be recorded in the 80's. I found it to be a Galaxy brand fan. Here's a link to a pic of one I found on google. You can see the underside of the housing for the power knob, as the video was taken looking upwards at the fan. If anyone can figure out when this model first made, let us know. It might help figure out the issue of modern versus old footage. Just a thought.
