Case History
The victim was located inside a tent along a service trail south of San Pedro Avenue, just off of Highway 1 in Pacifica, California on June 6, 2006.
The tent she was found in contained many books, including two Bibles, a “Busy Women’s Journal” with several scriptures noted and Harry Potter. On the tent were letters made of tape stating, “no go, no eat, no drink, murder.”
Her fingerprints were run through the county system and revealed a picture, name, date of birth and place of birth. All the information was fake.
Police picked up the woman in January for walking along the expressway acting erratically. She was booked into the San Mateo County Jail by the California Highway Patrol. The name she gave at the time of her arrest was Sam Smith, with a date of birth of January 20, 1960 and a birthplace of Louisville, Kentucky. She was released with no charges.
The cause of the woman's death remains undetermined because her body was too badly decomposed to allow a ruling. But officials don't believe she was murdered because there were no obvious signs of trauma.
According to the coroner's report, the woman left writings in some of her books that indicated she planned to starve herself to death. Toxicology tests were inconclusive.
Investigators found a newspaper in the tent dated March 2, which could indicate she'd been dead several months.
Coroners have tried to match her with the dental records of several other missing persons but have not found a match.

Last seen on June 15, 1989 in Port St. Joe, Gulf County, Florida.
Case History
On June 15, 1989, a Polaroid photo of this girl bound and gagged was found in a Port St. Joe, FL convenience store parking lot by a customer. The photo also showed an unidentified boy, also bound. The photo was found where a white, late 1980's Toyota cargo van with no windows had previously been parked. This unidentified teenage girl was also seen on the beach in Port St. Joe, Florida on June 15, 1989. She was accompanied by several older Caucasian males, who appeared to be ordering the girl along the beach front. It is not known if this girl was being held against her will by these individuals or if the incident was staged. Investigators are still trying to ascertain the girl's identity, which would allow them to close the case or investigate further.
A tattered copy of "My Sweet Audrina" by V.C. Andrews, a plastic cup and a squirt gun are also visible in the photo. Polaroid officials say the picture was taken with film not available until May 1989. Two other photos have surfaced over the years. The first was found near a residential construction site in Montecito, California. The haunting Polaroid, taken on film not available until June 1989, shows the blurry image of a girl's face, her mouth again covered with tape, her hairline exhibiting that same cowlick at the right temple. Behind her is light-blue striped fabric similar to that on the pillow in the Toyota van photo. Another Polaroid, this one taken on film not available until February 1990, shows a woman loosely bound in gauze, her eyes covered with more gauze and large black-framed glasses. A man is sitting next to her on a passenger seat of an Amtrak train.
There have been speculations that the girl in this case file is Tara Calico who disappeared from New Mexico in 1988.

Apparently Tara's favorite novel was "My Sweet Audrina". Her mother identified the scar on the leg of the girl in the polaroid picture as the same scar with Tara's scar.

Residents driving through the southwest Volusia area found the victim's nude body at Maytown Road near Gobler's Lodge Road in a rural area five miles east of Osteen.
His head and hands were missing and have never been recovered. He had a cord tied around his ankles and it appeared he had been dragged behind a vehicle.
In 2007, the investigation revealed the victim may be from South Florida, but an official identification has not been made.
