I recently discovered Juni Ito's stuff a couple months ago, he's fantastic. His stuff is genuinely unsettling, and the artwork is wonderful. Black Paradox is one of my favorites of his. It's not as creepy as Uzumaki or Tomie, and much lighter on the body horror, but it's fucking great.
Also, if anyone wants to check out another great horror manga, Ibitsu by Ryou Harutaro is worth a read.
>>17680016
this reminded me of the movie/manga Uzumaki? I originally watched it as a 12 year old when I was visiting China, it was amongst all these bootleg CDs and me and my sister couldn't get enough of it. to this day scariest shit i've ever seen
do you have any uzumaki?
>>17679974
Thanks for the comic anon.
Now that I think about it, this and Uzumaki are the only comics that Ito wrote that have an honest to God ending.
Most of his works end as if you remove the last 15 minutes in a horror flick.
Except for "Summer Graduation Trip" which was the equivalent to just showing the first 5 minutes.
Fuck Summer Graduation Trip.
>>17680018
Man, I forgot about Black Paradox, that was fantastic.
>>17680020
i have all three volumes now
i could dump those sometime
but it's like everyone has already read them, so it's kind of a *shrug* situation
also man i felt the film adaptation was weak af
>>17680027
i'm reading the reception of the film and it sounds like it wasn't too good....
but man as a twelve year old kid i remember I had to try to watch the movie several several times before I got to the end...shit was scary to me man
>>17680026
boy do i have some news for you, sonny
at least, i think so
he has this whole thing with a character named souichi, the kid with the nail sucking or whatever, you'll see
anyway, i guess you're kind of right? i think it's mostly because these are the only major stories he sat down and wrote? i wonder what keeps him from really doing major series
>>17680029
ey i'm not gonna knock you man, it was still weird
>>17680032
but you've inspired me to get into manga....gonna buy some online the last time i was really into magna was like slam dunk and before that was shonen jump...*sigh* the good days
>>17680026
I've been binge reading his stuff online. Loved it so much I actually ordered hardbacks of Uzumaki, Gyo and Fragments of Horror a while back on B&N when they were having a sale.
>>17680029
>i'm reading the reception of the film and it sounds like it wasn't too good....
That's an understatement, the film is fucking awful. If you want a good J-horror movie, watch Marebito. Don't let the fact that it was directed by the guy from The Grudge turn you off, Marebito is actually a good movie.
>>17680032
i just think about the curled hair bit of that movie too much
like, really? that's the part of the series you want to end on?? it was the weakest chapter, honestly, and they use it as the finale.
>>17680034
good, embrace the weeb within you
>>17680035
ooh, while we're recommending movies, can i recommend this trio of asian films, "three extremes"?
the korean one is a little over the top, but i still think it was pretty good. i also have another series that i'll have to go search for that i think is pretty okay.
>>17680042
found it, it's called rampo noir
it's a huge two-parter, kind of weird, a little slow, but worth it
some of the acting could use some work, but i haven't watched any asian media where i didn't think that so, take that as you will
>>17680026
You obviously haven't read much of his stuff then. Check out The Intersection's Pretty Boy, Flesh Colored Horror, The Bronze Statue or The Story of the Mysterious Tunnel.
>>17680042
Heard of it, still haven't seen it though. I did finally get around to watching Strange Circus and Audition though, they were pretty great.
>>17680049
tell me, is there any actual eating of vomit in audition? that's the one bit that's keeping me from watching it
oh i just remembered, if anyone wants a good animated feature, check out perfect blue
i have a mad weakness for that movie
>>17680051
Eh, technically. Unless you're really paying attention though, you won't realize it's vomit anyway, because it just looks like milk. The scene isn't long anyway.
>>17680063
i'll probably still be grossed out, but now i will definitely watch it anyway, can't be that bad
thx anon
>>17679974
Kind of reminds me of a twisted version of Naussica.
Thanks mangabro
