"We have free will" is actually just an excuse for the contradictions in their religion.

Pagan/tribal religions were more up front. They may have only had one outcome for people, such as the Greeks, or Celts, or the Native Americans (depending on the tribe.) But in THIS life (where we have the issue of evil, and free will vs. no free will.) You are free to act as you wish, and you are not pushed into needing to act a certain way to get some form of reward, or face punishment.
