Your main issue seems to be that you're losing steam because your efforts aren't paying off the way you'd expect them to. I get the notion of a sort of Diabolus Ex Machina that came out of nowhere and sort of wrecked your plans. Due to this, you're beginning to feel demoralized and risk-averse.

But, you know, there are people that perform divination with dice, with regular playing cards... things that are also simply game pieces. To add to this though, the reason why a lot of people prefer tarot (besides it being easy to get into) is that the concepts and ideas covered by the cards adequately reflect/cover most concepts and ideas you'd see in a person's life, in a balanced and easy-to-read way that (usually) flows together. In other words, it's designed in a way that's very, very fitting for divination, and can give you information on most situations.

Let's say you decided to use Pokemon cards but you didn't assign any cards to business-related ideas. Then if someone asks you a question and the answer is, say, "you'll leave your job and get a new one", if you have no set of cards that would say that, how are you going to get that message? It's like teaching someone half a language to use but expecting them to fully express the same concepts as someone with an expansive vocabulary.

That all depends on your personal philosophy about divination. There might be other reasons why those kind of cards don't give readings, such as religious connections some people might have with their divination tools and the symbolism involved.

I mean, there are people who trust Thoth or Rider-Waite style decks but not oracle decks, or Thoth but not Rider-Waite, and so on... It's complicated when it comes down to how a person personally believes divination to work.

I tend to judge by the individual reader and their results, and not by the tools used.
