Guys, I'm the guy who restarted the search for the area described in pic related in January. I emailed the guy a couple of times in February and he mentioned he was going to go back in April. Then he went dark ever since mid February or so.

He hasn't responded to any of the emails I've sent him (I sent 2 in March and another just now).

/x/plorers, Me and E Zed need your help. I need as many people as I can get to help me look for it on Google Maps, old, turn of the century maps (as described in the original story), and mining town records.

Maybe make an image of examined area so you don't examine the same places too closely more than once, and label potential areas that can't be entirely dismissed

The thing that really pisses me off about this story is that his dad was just like, "Yeah don't go there again bud." Anyone in their right mind would have asked what happened, AND PERSISTED if they didn't get an answer. With something this, well, paranormal, it isn't just something you give up.
>>
>>17577246

I had the same initial reaction as you, but I think you're just projecting. You probably aren't middle-aged, don't have children and haven't raised children so it's likely your reaction won't be the same as a middle-aged man who has raised children into adult-hood.

Not everyone would be driven to ask what happened (if they knew what could've happened or not). It's very possible his dad didn't want to know what happened; seeing his son back home, safe and sound was good enough for him. It can sometimes be difficult for fathers to talk to their kids (especially if it's about something serious), so they just don't.
>>
>>17577287
That's fair enough, I just feel like that if the man is now in his 20's and his father is still around, there's no reason for him not to have inquired later on. But maybe I am projecting lol, it's just what I would have done at SOME point.

Also I think that the fact that his father knew exactly where he'd been (cabin/tree etc.) means that he had a pretty good idea of what happened.
>>

Interesting story. The creatures could well be some crypto big-foot-like animal that survived in an unknow cave system that intercede with the mine or (if you want to be real /x/ about it) some abomination from the Area 51/Dulce/Groom Lake complex seeing that this happened in Nevada.

I personally find the crypto idea fascinating, some huge, non-primate humanoid, capable of complex communication living until this century, hidden through caves... It's just too cool. I'd go there exploring with you guys If I wasn't a poorfag from another country.
>>
>>17570465

>>
>this was at nearly 10k feet elevation too
it has to be somewhere nearby the Ruby Dome
search from Ruby Valley, NV to North Fork, NV
there's an unmarked trail visible on satellite heading north from 'end of the road'
could the mine and crashes possibly be along either the overgrown trail north of North Fork or the other trail headed straight for Ruby Dome?
>>
>>17583656
You'd need a survey map of the area to determine whether or not the mine is there.

I suggest using "satellite"/google maps to make sweeps, and looking up a survey map of similar areas to get more insight.
There doesn't have to be any speculation of whether or not there is a mine there.
>>
>>17582017 Me again. After looking through 4plebs it seems you actually got E Zed to come by and give you more information. The new information he gave made me realize I was looking in the wrong places.

Here is a map of the area.
The yellow line extending from Wells represents 30 miles south "as the crow flies" as described in the original post. I have a feeling he was estimating this number, since it isn't near where he later clarified he went.
The strawberry-colored boomerang boundary in the southwest corner is the northern end of the Ruby Range.
The magenta-purple boundary next to it is the north end of Ruby Valley.
The orange circle is Secret Pass, which separates the Ruby Range from the East Humboldt Range.
And the blue boundary, then, is the East Humboldts.

The area dashed with golden lines is the area I originally spent my time looking in, at the base of the east slope of the East Humboldts.

The ruby line here is North Ruby Valley Road off of NV State Route 229. This is the road off of which E Zed said he started on the worn-down road that led to the cabin.

The black boundary here is the primary search area. So, then, >>17583656, I don't think it would be near Ruby Dome, because E Zed specified with archive.4plebs.org/x/thread/17265302/#17267614 that it was in the East Humboldts and not the Ruby Range. (However, don't completely rule out the Ruby Range).

washes and gullies.jpg
184KB, 1308x791px
>>17583758
From the looks of the map E Zed sketched in the original post, the cabin and mine are at a bend in the road, and 180° bends typically occur in the creases of the mountainsides. This would also match up with the canyon to the inside of the bend and the high ridge to the outside. So I've been looking up and down in all of these washes and gullies for the giant red rock he'd described but haven't found it. If it was as unique and big as he made it sound in the post, it would most definitely show up in Google Earth—15 meters is nearly 50 feet. He said it had slid off the road, so it may have tumbled down further. I've also been looking for areas with trees ringing the curves. The tree line starts at a higher elevation, though I've still been paying attention to the lower levels. 10,000 feet is certainly high enough to be up in the trees.

is it possible that the road doesnt exist anymore? I mean, this happened 15 years ago. And if this road was as abandoned as descibred, it may be overgrown by now, and not really show up on the map as a road

Kinda like this road here, if it even is a road
>>
>>17583830
how do you even do that?
>>
>>17583840
I don't think that's a road, I think that's a gully. If it's in the middle of the crease and looks like it has a bunch of splotches in it, it's probably a gully.

Also, while it did happen a while back, it would still be noticeable. If there was enough of a road for E Zed to continue driving along at 15 mph in 2001, it'll still be there. Unless it's completely smothered by trees.

Actually, that detail and more would be nice to know if E Zed shows his head around here again. If he could describe the path up, like if he crossed any dry ravines, that'd be real swell too.
>>
I don't know. Most of these places look the same, rather hard to distinguish features. I don't know if an old cabin is going to stand out against this environment, or if it hasn't been torn down by people or weather.

>>
The default view of Google Earth and Maps is North upwards, so maybe play around with the directional view and look at the backsides of mountain slopes from the south. Might catch some details you didn't see from the north view.

Also, follow any dirt roads you see from the lowlands and consider the plausibility of a pickup truck traveling in them. And look at the southern end of the East Humboldts, I haven't paid much attention to that area.
>>
I'm done looking for now, too freaked out. I live in Nevada so the idea of this is kinda spookin me a bit. Every time I come across a U-shaped road my heart leaps

>>
>>17583718
Well one range has a lot of pictures, I suppose that would cross it off the list quick. Try looking at the other range, sweeps might not find it. Description makes me think that there's probably quite a bit of trees, may not be able to see the road due to density.

>>17592107
We can't really do much with the math. Most of it requires generous assumptions and rounding, and even then it doesn't really give us any idea of where E Zed went, just how far he travelled. When I did the shady math I figured he travelled for 30 miles into the mountains, and like I said the math is shady (I was assuming for most of the variables.)

As for the burger bar there's no way of knowing which one he went to. There's several burger places in Wells and I can't verify if they're the one or not. He only mentions the way the burger bar was in 2001, not how it is today. As far as we know, the restaurant might not even be in business today. We also don't know if the tables E Zed remembers are even there anymore (any restaurant is bound to redecorate at least once in 15 years.)

It still helps you focus your efforts and it gives you a place to start. As long as you consider your margin for error in the process, I can only see it as helpful. You make it out to be useless, but it's something you have to work with. How much else do you have to work with? Not much, I think. Take it for what it's worth and use it in your investigation to help lead you to other more viable evidence.

Britfag here.

I live a fair whack away, but I am very interested and may be able to be of assistance.

I'm a geophysics student, and part of my course involves the analysis of geological maps; I have two possible methods for narrowing down the location:

1) Studying geological maps of the area with old mine locations on them. Coupled with topographical info regarding sea level, I could get an idea for locations.

2) (More advanced) I use GIS data mapping systems. This would systematically strip down the data of the area...

> Setting the parameters of the map between (for example) 7000-10,500ft above sea level
> Data points regarding old mines

Cross reference the data sets to get potential locations. (see pics, for example of how this works...it's not to difficult to reproduce with the available data...few hours work).

The question is, how does one get hold of such information in your country?

I am not sure of the laws in regards to acquiring old geological maps, let alone GIS data to overlay in to the mapping system. We can, in the UK, go to our local council for information, and data sets can even be found online.

Any of you American able to shed light on the information? If I can help, I will

The creature share similar characteristics to a certian species of giant ground sloth that lived in the Americas. However idk if there is a food source for them there in the Rubies that could sufficiently support them. Beside that i doubt we could do anything else until he visits and shows us a video. May be he could pinpoint the location on a map. If him and his friends revist the area i doubt he would find the place unless he knows its exact location, it doesnt seem like a place you could stumble upon twice.

After fact checking for plane crashes in the East Humboldts i only found two plane crashes. One involving a B-17 and the other involving a C-17. Neither was about 10,000 feet in elevation both were above 11,000. also none of them were described to have taken 3 days to travel to the wreckage. furthermore none of the crashes describe the bodies being in the same fashion as is described in the mans story. heres the link to what i found http://www.rubymountains.net/b-17crash_data.html
>>
>>17603143
I saw that website yesterday night before I went to bed, not sure if I was just fatigued and making shit up but the report of the condition of the bodies varied between each report... not sure if that is just because it was a developing situation but at first they said that the bodies were all "packed into the wreckage bar one" and another one claimed that the bodies were strewn out over the mountain with the wreckage. No doubt if the first responders found a bunch of dead bodies neatly arranged and mauled to shit higher authorities would have been called in and covered it up to prevent panic etc.

I am still around.

Life has been kicking my ass, but I'm heading up there next week.

I have a GoPro, DSLR, a couple people who can shoot and everything ready. I will also have my DeLorme inreach satellite communicator so that I can drop a link so you can track my progress and follow it on a map. Cell service will probably be spotty out there but I have that as an emergency plan.

I'm up for another hour or so. Questions?
>>
>>17603634
So have you found the location?
>>
>>17603646
On maps I have not.

Between my dad and I we are pretty confident that we can find it.

Things look way more familiar in person than they look on a map. Shit, there are tons of places I have been hunting where I couldn't point it out on a map, but I could take you there. Probably Monday the 2nd we will be going out there.
>>
>>17603663

>>
>>17603634
Sounds exciting, man. Wish you the best of luck.
>>
>>17603745
Why wouldn't you try to scope out the area first with a GPS, send the coordinates back to /x/ just before you leave so others can explore when you get eaten, as well as letting you have a clue about where it is so you're not just driving around wasting time on game day?

By the way, good luck with the divorce and the whole not dying thing.
>>
>>17603922
I've looked pretty endlessly at satellite imagery of the area, and I cannot find it.

I will have my DeLorme with me when I set out. Basically it is a GPS tracker and messaging unit. I can activate it and I will post the link to my unit, where you can ping the unit to see where I am, and can message me via the link etc. If it stops at one place you'll know I've been eaten.

Between my dad and I, we have a rough idea where it is, and feel pretty confident that we will find it.

The same Geophysical Englishman here...does that mean you guys need any help with the mapping to narrow down the area.

Also, sorry to be lazy and not try and source out the data myself...I am preparing for exams atm (Fourier series and structural interpretation are not fun at all!)

If you find them please let me know I will be viewing this thread.

If I can see geological survey maps, then perhaps I can locate distributions of the red rock type as well, to get a clearer idea of it.

E ZED!...Can you describe to me the colour of the red rock...find a picture of what it looked like. Was is deep red? Rusty? Did it have any other colours in it?

If it is a large rock, it won't have come from nowhere, and will likely have bands of the same rock at higher/similar altitudes.

Using the tag Geophysics for now...

May I can all of you in Nevada, is it the Lamoille mountain range you are working in? (see pic)

I found (a lot easier than I thought), and ideal geological map of this location. If not I will look for others (though I cannot, as of yet obtain GIS data files as I don't have the know-how at this time...).

Here is what I will be studying: http://ngmdb.usgs.gov/Prodesc/proddesc_8985.htm

I know this is off topic, as the thread is mostly looking for the location from the story. But the sketch and description of that creature in the OP is IDENTICAL to a creature I saw while driving near the Natchez Trace Bridge on Highway 96 in Tennessee about 8 or 9 years ago. It has been burned into my memory since.

>>
Godspeed Ezed, I remember the original post and I've always wondered what would become of it.
>>
>>17612789
I'm on mobile but I can try. Before I grew text let me give some backstory. I had shown my girlfriend at the time the "Michigan Dog Man" video to try and scare her because I am an asshole and yada yada lol. I week or two later I get a call from her saying that her and her friend had swerved off of the road (on Hwy 96) because they had seen "Michigan Dog Man". I asked if she was ok (she was) and then laughed and blew the story off. 3 weeks go by and I had forgotten all about it, which leads to my green text.

>me, in my first year of college had gone home to visit my parents
>at the time Highway 96 was the fastest way between college and hometown
>my university was about an hour from home so I visited family often
>one night decide to head back to university to go to a party
>late at night because I originally thought I would be staying with family
>driving down Hwy 96 with another car behind me
>get sudden sense of dread
>see what I think at first is a deer near the side of the road in the distance
>slow down to keep from hitting it
>it starts moving into the road
>have to come to a complete stop because it is crossing
>sense of dread immediately spikes
>I realize I'm not looking at a deer but something bigger
>flip on my brights and I'll never forget what I saw
>large hairy creature (brown/grayish) it's hair was long and somewhat matted
> has a slender face, is walking on all fours, has longish front legs/arms and kinda moves somewhat sloth-like. Seemed kinda lazy
>it stops
>turns and looks at my car
>I am frozen and can't move
>it continues to cross the street
>car behind me starts honking and I snap back to reality
>I start speeding away
>car behind me starts going so fast that they pass me in a no passing zone
>I raced to my dorm and stayed home. No party for me that night

I'm almost positive the car behind me saw it. Afterward I called my gf and told her sorry I doubted her. I will never forget the way it made me feel. That sketch made me feel it.

About a year ago when I was searching for this place I picked up a topographical atlas of NV that has some old trails and tons of mines and wells labeled in it, I can post pics of areas later tonight when I'm off work if anyone wants.
I don't remember the year the atlas is from but it's not too current, all the better for finding a trail from 2001 that may be overgrown by now.

Sorry im late to the party friends

Idk how many hours I spent scouring the internet looking for information.

There are two more greentexts that come to mind with this story. (Unfortunately I dont have them saved because my phone just broke) The first is located at a place in Ruby Valley called Hidden Lake(s?), in which an anon goes hiking and feels like hes being stalked. He hides in some rocks overlooking the Lake where he sees a creature described exactly like the OP story.
The second is in Nevada, no greater detail. But an anon goes out with his dirtbike, ham radio, and yugo m76 to kill coyotes and camp, but ends up leaving early after being terrorized by a creature similar to the OP description.

Sorry I cant be of more help. But this makes me really want to head out and se whats in those mountains. Its a shame I dont think Ill have a chance for another year or so.

I've skimmed over this thread before, and read E Zed's story. Can we just kinda talk about the caliber of bullets this thing has taken? 5+ shots with 7.61x51mm NATO? This thing had shown that it didn't like getting shot, but at the same time it survived more bullets than most animals of relative size could handle. Even with five guys, isn't this super risky? I'm not suggesting you need an A-bomb, but you need something damn near close.

Hey so i have a theory about everything that we have found so far. I think Ezed ran across a family of Skinwalkers. Now if you don't know about Skinwalkers, its a Native American legend of creatures that takes the form of different animals. Now i believe that Skinwalkers can take the form of animals that may be extinct now. I think that these skinwalkers were in the form of a Paramylodon. The Paramylodon is an extinct subspecies of ground sloths. These animals stand 3m or 9.8 feet tall also giant ground sloth remains have been found in caves before, suggesting that Giant Ground Sloths used caves for shelter. As a matter of fact this article talks about prehistoric man killing sloths in a Nevada cave http://blog.modernmechanix.com/did-prehistoric-man-kill-sloths-in-old-nevada-cave/ . This would explain why Ezed encountered one that was emerging from a mineshaft. Other things that these skinwalkers could have been in a form of would be a Megalonyx (another subspecies of Giant Ground Sloths), the Shasta Ground Sloth, Mexican Grizzly Bear, California Grizzly, or the Short Faced Bear. I think these skinwalkers are teritorial which is why the others had their camps torn up. They saw it as an infringement or invasion of their territory so the ruined it. Also i don't think they are extremely dangerous because it seems that if they wanted to kill Ezed and the other would be dead. Still you should play it safe Ezed. Good luck man.

Nigga whatever they saw aint a skinwalker, they sound creepy enough but if they really did exist they would just be some Native American dude in a ghillie suit or furry getup. They didn't just "shapeshift" into a another animal, the village shaman would do a ritualistic dance to symbolise the transformation into an animal of significance to the tribe/village. Do you believe in shapeshifting reptillian aliens being among our political and cultural elite? Are you a conspiracy theorist?

Is there evidence the E Zed in this thread is the original? I really, really want this to be true because it's the best content on /x/ in a long time

There was literally no description of it other than dog or bear demon, dont jump to conclusions so quick
>>
I remember watching this show about some monster sightings in the US.

It was police dash cam footage and it was in Nevada but not near the same place described in these creature sighting stories posted in this thread.

Basically, when some cops where heading somewhere, tall, doglike creature leaped from the road and they slammed their brakes. Once they stopped, it ran.

It looked somewhat like the creature that was sketched (tall, furry, claws) even though it was referred to as a werewolf.

yo so like i was watching this documentary on like mysterious disappearances in like national parks, and in one case:
there was this little boy who disappeared from his family, and was never found. some people at a different location claimed to have witnessed a tall like creature (not a bear) that was furry and kind of skinny and looked weird climbing up a mountain, and they saw that it was carrying a small bundle.. so like idk maybe its another proof that its real??
>>
>>17636763
Was this a documentary, or those creepypastas written by the Reddit chick claiming to be a member of the non-existent U.S. Forest Service Search and Rescue?
>>
>>17636880
No, this could have been from Missing 411, which is awesome af.
>>
>>17636763
Find it and link it anon.
>>
>>17636887
It certainly could have been, the Reddit girl based a lot of her stories on that. I've watched quite a few Missing 411 interviews, and just don't recall ever having seen anything blatantly indicting a "cryptid" for one of the disappearances. It seemed more like the sort of story to come out of the creepypastas than Paulides's work, hence why I asked. I can't really think of what other "documentary" it may have been, other than maybe that Stephanie(?) something-or-other chick who's basically a more scatterbrained version of Paulides.

Hi. Not viewed this thread in almost a week - Like he said I've been busy...exams coming up and my heads been in matrices, eigenvectors, and geological maps of West Scotland, rather than Nevada. I'll dedicate a bit of time this evening, as this glorious thread is still going.

I'm really liking all the effort people seem to be going to. I hope E Zed gets back :)

Geodude here, I've been going some sleuthing and have gathered some information of a possible location.

>>17638666

If you recall from E Zeds story, a few pointers of the location

> 30 miles South, as the crow flies, from Wells
> Slightly North of the road off Highway 93 that goes in to Ruby Valley... This appears to check out as road 229

In this area, between 20-40 miles (to account for error), two mines crop up:

- Polar Star Mine
- Echo Mine

Echo mine appears to be rather flat, and devoid of much vegetation. However, Polar Star mine seems to throw up some interesting data.

Whilst the GIS data point for Polar Star Mine is located 250m east of the area that I wish to draw attention to, it could be possible that the mining site had multiple shafts in the area to obtain the ore when it was in operation.

I will next discuss Point 1

Weell and shack.png

>>17639020

Zooming in to Point 1, I notice what appears to be an unconformity in the image, which may possibly be a shack nestled between some trees.

At the second point it shows what appears to be a well; a dark spot/hole in the ground, yet it casts a shadow, indicating elevation from the ground.

Looking back to the previous image, you can see this is obviously at a higher elevation than the road, which is consistent with the story.

>>17639024

In E Zed's story, he stated that a ridge ran alongside the road, at an elevation of 100ft.

The topographic profile from the road to the top of the ridge shows a difference of 32m, or 104 for you barbarians who have yet to adopt the metric system (that, we use both interchangeably lol).

Road length.png
1MB, 1350x650px
>>17639029

The final pieces of evidence I have for now are the road length and shape.

> "After the tree the road continued straight for about 200 yards, then hooked back before becoming 90 degrees"

It more or less fits.

If you look at the original picture, the hookup in the path seems to exactly mate E Zed's diagram. The road dies off, but he did say it was an old path, barely visible, so he could have been essentially driving offroad up to this point.

I'll post a picture next without the annotations, for a clearer view of the path.

However:

I cannot see the "Canyon" he described, nor the 15ft rock. However, given the location of the rock on his map, it could well be obscured within the trees.
