Got a bit of an odd story, if you guys are interested

> Working nights at a call center
> Grill co-worker goes out to smoke pot around 1
> Sees truck with it's engine running
> weird but whatever, she doesnt smoke up and comes back in
> Around 3 we go on another break and decide to light up together as usual
> Go outside, truck is still there and running
> Very clearly no driver, truck isnt large enough to have a bed in the back and if he was asleep he would've been clearly in the window as a light was shining on his track so we could see no one was there
> Weird
> Think maybe something happened and discuss calling the company to get truck
> All of a sudden engine revs the fuck up super loud
> Get this bad gut feeling
> Walk out of sight of truck but can still hear the engine revving up over and over
> Once out of sight, engine goes back to normal
> Go out for last break at 6 to get food
> We walk past again, both times this happens again
> Still no one in it, and it's light out so it's clear no one is in there
> Friend who cames back from their 7 o'clock break comes in
> Ask if he saw the truck
> Yeah it drove around the parking lot twice

Was it a semi-truck? Tractor mechanic here, truck was probably doing whats known as a regen. Modern semi tractors have diesel particulate filters (DPF for short) that filter the soot out of the exhaust. These filters eventually start to get clogged, and in order to clean them the truck has to rev high enough to raise the exhaust temperature to a level that will burn the soot that is in the filter. The driver pretty much flips a switch and lets it run while he sleeps in the back or whatever. That's my theory on what happened.
