So in regards to the location the OP was talking about in his story, I think I've found a lead to the area.

He mentioned it being about 30 miles south of Wells. After dropping some pins on 93 I finally got to the 30 mile mark and found a small road. The road itself ends quickly but on sattelite view you can see a small dirt road that goes on for a pretty long way. It's mostly flatlands and since the story mentioned a hill it has to be in the mountains the dirt road leads to.

Looking at the road on sattelite is pretty hard since it's low res and the general area looking like the surface of the moon doesn't help either. Will post pics soon.

Also, requesting E-Zed (the original story teller) to check this out.

This looks like a homestead in the middle of nowhere? It's on the other side of Spruce Mountain and can be reached from the dirt paths from highway 93.

Hey. OP here. After some more investigation of the dirt road it just gets harder and harder to follow. The sattelite view has a bad resolution.

If the mountain area the road lead to had a name, I would look up a topographic map for it. It seems to be a lower part of Spruce Mountain (picrel).

I'll look around for some topographic maps of Spruce Mountain.

The Story OP mentioned that nearby was a canyon of sorts that was 200 ft down according to his sketch. So it must have some steep contour lines on a map.

See you later.
>>
Also like to mention there's a page on ghost towns in Spruce Mountain. I'll be doing some digging there too.

This could either be a very well done short horror story, or this guy could have stumbled upon some kind of remnant family of rodent people. Maybe some kind of military experiment that they just let live in the wilderness. I wonder if one was to actually follow all these maps what you would find.

Nothing yet. It's a structure on its own, the road basically ends there.

Side note about spruce mountain, it's a pretty cool area. Lots of abandoned structures and mine shafts. Went into one that was partially collapsed this October, had to crawl through a pretty small opening to get through. Shit was a bit creepy. Got pics of all over spruce since I have been there quite a few times in the last few years.

well god speed if and when you do get back up there, Don't take any stupid chances. If you can put one down be prepared for the swarm as you saw before. No idea how smart they are after all.
>>
Seems like whatever it was wasn't too concerned with killing you. That kind of trailing isn't acting like a predator.

If they could trail you as far as they did, they could have gotten you at just about any time. If they were afraid of you, they would have just bolted instead of trailing you. That wasn't fight or flight and it sure as hell wasn't hunting.

It's interesting because what you described was a pack hunting tactic, but without them actually ever closing with you. Something like that is more typical of herding dogs than anything wild.

Shitloads of native legends of semi-divine protectors in that region of America. Maybe you found something that was quasi-domesticated. Untamed, but not completely unfriendly towards humans.

>>
>>17270362
>>17270362
Back when this event occurred, I was young and dumb. Back then I just had a compass, rifle, a water bottle or two, and some jerky.

Now I try to pack (keep in the truck) 2 gallons of water and 2 days worth of food for every day I plan on being out. This gives me basically double what I need in case anything goes wrong.

I still have my compass that I have had for nearly 20 years now, but now I have a DeLorme In Reach Explorer GPS messenger. The thing is super cool, you can sent text messages, or call for help via satellite. Not only that, it links via bluetooth to your phone so that you can use your phone for messaging, or do all your mapping on it. The device also works completely stand alone. It is hands down, some of the best money I have spent on a piece of good outdoor gear that could save my ass. I have it on the freedom plan, and just activate it before I go out. My dad has one as well, but has his on a month to month plan since he is always out.

Other essentials I bring are maps (now I make it a point to get them for every area that I go, I still prefer paper maps to GPS and smartphones). 550 cord or other rope is always handy, duct and electrical tape, a good first aid kit, folding saw, entrenching tool, firestarting material, flashlights *plural*, batteries, and a good knife sorta round it out.

Of course I do not carry all this stuff on me, I keep the essentials in a Kelty MAP 3500 backpack, so that if I want to go check something out, I have what I need and I am not over burdened. In the Kelty, I have about 100 feet of 550 cord, one spare folding knife, matches, hydration bladder with 2 liters of water, trail mix, Quest bars, and some Australian soft eating licorice (shit is my vice and it gives you quick energy). I also carry some pain killers and another liter of water inside the pack along with some single serve packets of pre workout and some ephedrine in case I need a boost (Bronkaide for an easy boost).

I always have a pistol on me now, and that is sort of a personal choice. I carry it in an outside the waistband holster on my right side. I carry a spare magazine for my rifle and pistol on my left side as well, just in case. Depending on where I am going I usually have both my rifle and pistol on me. Like I said, I like to shoot shit, so once I get to the top of a hill sometimes I like taking long shots at rocks and what not. I usually keep two extra rifle and pistol magazines in my backpack as well. Currently my hills guns are a Steyr AUGA3 and a Heckler and Koch USP9 Expert. I shoot both well, and they are boringly reliable. The AUG is excellent to go into mineshafts and other tight spaces due to it being a bullpup. Downside is it is loud as fuck if you have to fire it in an enclosed space.

Going to get back to some other things, but feel free to drop me an email if you have any other questions on gear and stuff.

>mfw this was taped in Paraguay
>mfw some Luisón aka Lobizón (in Argentina) myths variants sound very close to those skinwalkers you burguers have
>mfw E Zed said that beast in the pic looked similar to the Luison

Luisón story is just a page from a chapter in what we call the (Guaraní) Myths. He was the seventh son from Taú and Kerana, the former being a devil, imp-ish entity and the latter the daughter from Marangatú, an entity analog to the Christian God.

Taú fell in love with Kerana and then tried to court her for some time, fighting other gods (and failing) in the process. Finally he resorted to kidnapping Kerana. He raped and married her, in that order, and after some time they had seven bastard monster children:
1. Teju Jagua: a giant, slow half-lizard half-dog entity
2. Mbói Tu'i: a giant snake with the head of a parrot
3. Moñái: Some say it's just a ugly big hairy monster than looks like a bear, some others say it's a flying horned snake
4. Jasy Jatere: a white blond boy/manlet with a yerba mate stick who owns the Siesta and does questionable acts with children during that time
5. Kurupi: an inverted-feet indian with a long dick which he rolls around his waist. As you can guess, he enjoys rape
6. Ao Ao: a big canibal sheep. The Myths told than once Ao Ao found a victim, it would keep pursuing it until eaten. The only thing than could save you was climbing a palm tree.
7. Luisón: an extremly ugly man always smelling of death, who turns into a wolf-human hybrid at night to lurk cementeries, graves and other places of death, to wallow and feast on rotten flesh and bones he dug up.
Sometimes Luisón would feast on those unfortunate people who watched him during his meal. In some variations of the Myths, Luisón could also turn into his cursed form after dancing in a dog or another Luisón pelt. He could also transmit the curse to more people by running between their legs.

The easiest thing for Zed to do is to ask his dad. His dad knew exactly where you were before you even told him. I've scoured maps all night and it's difficult seeing as terrain and places have changed over the years. I know it could be weird to bring it up to him, but that's our best bet. Satellite images are hard to scour unless he can give us like a specific location between highways or landmarks or somewhere to search.
>>
>>17272784

This. Shoot your dad an email or text or whatever, Zed. If he's going to be tight lipped about it, tell him that you're planning to go back there with a posse anyhow and the more you know about the area the safer you (and all of us) will be.

It might be a strained conversation but I imagine he'll like it better than you going in blind again, especially if the place freaks him out. Hell, maybe once you know what happened to make him afraid of the wildlife you'll reconsider the trip yourself.

I'm beginning to think he just ran across a bear with a bad case of mange even though he said it was too big (he was 16 at the time). There were probably other bears in the vicinity as well even if they are rare they're still there. The nasty stink that he smelled was probably from the mange itself. Bears more or less roar and don't scream, but if it were sick its roars probably came out sounding more like a scream like from a baby black bear cub. I hope I'm wrong. I want to see a cryptid like anyone else but don't go killing sickly bears by mistake (it's illegal to kill bears in Nevada).

Man this thread is dead. Haven't heard from E Zed either.

Instead of a kik group, let's make a discord one. There's an app and if you want to try it on PC there's a web browser version and a full program version. Download it and I'll send invites.

if it ends up being an endangered animal and not some cryptid make sure you bring some way to immobilize rather than kill(to prevent extinction and or enable capture), I mean if they come after you in high numbers then yeah go ahead and fire off as much as you want.

What's the difference between a cryptid and a rare species? Weren't giant squid cryptids until we found out they actually exist, just not on the surface?

I think we all know what's going on here...
>>
>>17280116
There has been scientific evidence of giant squids since the mid-19th century (beached bodies in Newfoundland and beaks found in the stomachs of sperm whales). Before that, sure, giant squids were cryptids. I remember reading that nobody in the scientific community in Europe would believe explorers about gorillas until an entire body in formaldehyde was shipped to some university.

Something is a cryptid if there is no scientific evidence for it's existence. Still, some things are a lot more plausible than others.

Apparently some dude dissapeared in the Nevada desert while going to explore a cave he had discovered in a canyon and got a really spooky feeling, worst thing is someone saw his comment and warned him that if he ever went in there, he would never come out again. Spoopy shit. E Zed that could be you

If I can ever find this fucking thing on the map, I'm gonna make it happen

Back in my work week, and things have been hectic. Downtime at work I'm using google earth and looking for it.

All else fails, probably April or so, after things have been thawed I go back home for a trip to shoot the shit out of ground squirrels. Even if I haven't located it on maps by then, I will dedicate a day and a tank of fuel to going out and looking for it. This time I will have GPS, my DeLorme, more guns, camera, backup and the whole nine yards.

Only so many roads I can take in there before I bump into it again.

So, let me get this straight. You think that there is a whole community of mangey Bears that live together in the middle of Nevada? Even tho he said they were covere from head to toe in fur and didn't look anything like bears

It's plausible that there's a reclusive, partially subterranean mammal that's either endangered or extremely k-selective. Large chunks of America are undocumented if not completely unexplored, and I don't imagine that mountainous parts of Nevada would be a hotspot for human settlement.

I'm not saying that it's spoopy skinwalkers or that we must prove that the Illuminati are hiding the molemen, just that such a species wouldn't be out of the question as being hitherto undiscovered. Doubly so if their skeletons could be mistaken for a bear's.

Either way, it's a good idea to get a responsible team together and explore some. Worst case scenario, you find nothing or nothing of interest like a mangy bear, but have a fun little outing and maybe some drunken shenanigans around a campfire. Best case scenario, you drag in a live specimen and can coast for a few years on the interview money. Either way, fukkin adventure cunts.

Only bears with mange are allowed in Nevada

Found this on anothrr thread There have been reports of "Devil monkeys" which are large baboon like primates that are now being spotted in the wooded areas of Flagstaff,
Arizona. The eye witness said that she noticed her dog was acting very agitated when they we're on they're hike through Mt. Elden forest trail, when she noticed a small group of primitive looking creatures scurrying through the rocks. She described them as 4-5 feet tall, very quick and agile. These so called creatures are called "Devil Monkeys" in other places of the United States. There have also been other sightings in other states such as New Mexico, Utah and Colorado.

Unique breeds of monkey have been described as being about 3 to 4 feet tall, although some eyewitnesses have sworn that these furry fiends can reach a height that is in excess of 7 feet. It seems clear, however, that those who have had an encounter with this larger version of the beast are actually describing a run-in with a prototypical hairy humanoid and not the smaller, more primate-like Devil Monkey. Unlike the legendarily gorilla-like Bigfoot or Yeti , these creatures — which have been seen throughout the American South and Mid-West and as far North as Alaska — have been described as a shaggy, canine-faced baboon-like creatures with powerful, almost kangaroo-like legs, a trait they share with the South America’s notorious “goat sucker” the chupacabra. Other distinguishing traits that Devil Monkeys are said to bear include 3-toed, razor-clawed feet, tiny pointed ears and a long, often bushy, tail.
Does it match what you say you saw?

>>
>>17268185
A smart predator or a predator faced with a prey they've never seen before will do those actions.

Sharks circle prey to gauge how powerful they are. Wolves will circle and track humans plenty of times. Hell, half of hunting IS just following to see how weak prey is or which herd member if it is a group is the weakest. Especiallyou if they are curious and faced with a unknown creature.

Google a video of lions faced with a dummy boar, a dummy gazel, and a dummy human. Tlion attacks the first two first because it knew how to hunt them. When faced with a human which looks freaking weird by animal standards. It lunged at it without any skill or forethought like a derp. It grabbed it by the leg like it didn't know where the hell to strike.

Predators are not the killing machines people imagine. They are cautios. Cuz in a our world, every wound is a deadly infection waiting to kill
>>
>>17290053

You're right about the behavior, but you're not thinking about the distance involved.

Trailing prey 200-300 yards while it is in full panic and flee mode is pretty odd. The only animal that does anything like that are wolves (and technically humans), and they only do that because they have legendary endurance compared to the rest of the animal kingdom. What's even more odd is the fact that he managed to faceplant and they didn't pounce. The only thing that encourages a predator more than running away is running away and tripping.

The fact that a group of them managed to keep up with him implies that they weren't just closing the distance, either. They were trailing him, and for an unheard of distance for something exhibiting such typical prey behavior.

link please, could not find the video

>>17290053
but animals unlike humans actually have tactics
its not like when a gang of people attack a person, one will approch trying to measure his strength to see if he can actually retaliate and overcome six other guys

animals attack at the same time from different directions so it would be impossible for you to handle it
>>
These things live in mine shafts? Fuck! I live in nevada county (an hour away from nevada in california ) and my town is full of mine shafts. The town is by the tahoe national forest. What would you say the odds of these things living underneath an old mining town? Like on the abandoned outskirts of town ?(where i live) :0
