It's been a while since I watched the X-Files but I remember various aspects pretty clearly.

I don't remember why William was necessary to the plan. I think it might have been that the fact that he was the only surviving hybrid makes him the perfect template to use for an improved version of the super soldiers. Remember, the fact that the Aliens are susceptible to magnetite is a serious weakness, but since William was clearly immune to it that's one huge advantage, and since they can't get near him now because of his magnetite, that would set their plans back.

As for Cigarette Smoking Man, it as I said in my original comment, I'm baffled by his survival. Perhaps they're baiting us and he isn't actually alive but just a figment of someones imagination, similar to the season 9 finale where Mulder was having visions of key characters who had died in previous episodes.

even though I saw it via an ass stream I'm glad the X-Files is back, and that they are touching on all the modern tropes of conspiracy.

The McHale character is surprisingly less grating than I thought - he's interesting as the Icke/whatever analogue.

Seems like it'll be a fun end to the X-Files if it goes nowhere, and it could be a return to form if it picks up. I'd even be down for a new team to pick up in the footsteps of Scully/Mulder and Dogget/Reyes. The Scully/Mulder dynamic is great but I think the best part of the late game X-Files was the introduction of the new pair.

Alright, things are off to a shaky start.

Here's the thing: We've been here before

We had an entire season where Mulder was convinced that there weren't actually Ayy lmaos and that it was simply the work of the Government working to control things.

I recognize that everyone is concerned by the fear mongering load of shit that is essentially /pol/ that they spouted out, but I'm glad that Scully was there to explain to them how much of a crock of shit it was.

Ultimately I think that we're seeing another instance of Mulder convinced of even crazier conspiracies than Aliens. There's so much lore to go over here its insane. There are things here that Mulder shouldn't be surprised about, but then again it could be that his opinions have changed over the last decade and he's finding out details that were relevant previously and in turn he's rediscovering information, and going through the phases he did before. As in, he's assured of Aliens, then is convinced it's a global government conspiracy to make the people BELIEVE it's Aliens, and finally he'll learn the truth behind whether it's Aliens, Government, or both.


The point, which may or may not be lost in the jumble of shit I just wrote, is that right now they're attempting to rewrite the entire lore of the series and thus there are complications at hand. They've set the basis for what will happen now and it was filled with /pol/ levels of absurdity, but I'm hoping they're building it up in order to reveal something less stupid but perhaps equally insane.

This miniseries is qualified as a season 10, making the final episodes canon

There are a few complications here. They have amazing lore but they're finding it difficult to find a direction in which to take it.

I think they gave it some thought with this new series and that they know where they want to take it. There were some weird /pol/ like conspiracies being introduced that downplay the role of Aliens, but I believe they've got a plan on where to take it, and they're setting up certain expectations so they can promptly destroy them with a revelation that will clarify many aspects of the series and tie it all together.
