The origin and content of the samples on this album has never been revealed or explained yet even its creators have admitted that it contains coded messages. Any idea what those might be?

Also general spooky music thread I guess.

This was my only bad trip. I think these guys might actually be evil.
>>
>>17046361
Listening to this on acid could probably mess you up for good.

I wouldn't say evil but they definitely are or were involved in some form of shady activities. They are very secretive about their lives and work processes and are apparently part of a secret collective about which almost nothing is known.

>They have also expressed a strong interest in the power of subliminal messaging and their work is full of cryptic messages including references to numerology and cult figures such as David Koresh of the Branch Davidians. When questioned about their aims in making such references, BoC express themselves in neutral terms ("We're not religious at all [...] and if we're spiritual at all it's purely in the sense of caring about art and inspiring people with ideas.") while remaining fascinated with the ability of music to influence the minds of others ("[We] do actually believe that there are powers in music that are almost supernatural. I think you actually manipulate people with music...").

Checking out these guys. Apparently they posted a satellite image of a location on their twitter, and in the meta data of the image had a time and date. People showed up and they played their music on speakers. Getting an eerie vibe with that.

i am fairly open to all types of music but i distinctly recall first hearing BoC around 16 years of age and it genuinely creeped me out. I felt bad for listening to it. there was nothing about it in particular that i could put my finger on as to why exactly

this topic interests me because no other band has freaked me out so much despite having such an innocuous style. i have come to enjoy some of their work but i still feel uneasy about it

my arch enemy in high school was really into BoC so perhaps it was doomed for me to begin with haha
>>
>>17046447
Honestly it's beyond me how some people can just put BoC in the background or use it as music to "chill" to.

Walking through a dark empty park and listening to Tomorrow's Harvest on my headphones must have been one of the eeriest recent experiences I've had. Even without that setting the music makes me feel uneasy and somewhat disconnected from reality, particularly The Campfire Headphase. And it's safe to say this was at least somewhat intentional.

Also, inb4 this album cover has Masonic symbols on it.

It's a hexagon which is coincidentally also the name of both their studio and music collective.

It's creepy not knowing what you are listening to.

I like the darkness of Coil but they are pretty straightforward and don't fill their songs with subliminal messages. Also I don't think anyone considers them "electronic music to chill out to" the same way people do with BoC.

ive never heard of them before either but I just realized one of my friends played one of those creepy songs from geogaddi while 3 of us were tripping on shrooms. that was a terrible fucking trip from a few years ago and I still remember seeing that orange hexagon album cover.

im listening to the album currently and its giving me such a creepy vibe, but ofc being 4 AM doesn't help either
>>
>>17046308
Geogaddi is fucking awesome.

They used dubs from numbers stations in this album, and they generally rely on old 20th Century film narrations for dubs as well.

I used to play this album as background music while doing projects. Painted a whole basement while listening to it, working late into the night with the album on repeat.

BoC are pretty good ambient music in general.

They stated that the subliminal messages in geogaddi was a positive thing... it's apparently to get you more comfortable with outdoors life. They wanted to reverse the comfort that comes with "gaudy" modern comforts/city living which actually sounds great to me since I share that opinion.
They have also stated that they hate city life or at least much prefer country life, saying they would prefer hanging with friends around a campfire as apposed to being pushed around by "suits" in a subway train.
As for the whole secretive side I think it's more for the mystique of BoC, since it would be as fun without that.

Yeah, it's very warm, but also smothering and nauseating. Fuck I'm so in the mood to listen to it. Dawn Chorus especially. Corsair for me feels like the much needed breath of fresh air, the way it rises and never stops.

What I love about Tomorrow's Harvest is the little parallels it has with Geogaddi-- Both albums are a strange trip through shifting, twinkling, dark soundscapes, but while Geogaddi chooses to end things on a note of rising hope with Corsair, Tomorrow's Harvest does the exact opposite with the last track that shuts the doors left open by Come to Dust.

Man I've been on a bit of boc hiatus for the past few months, think it's time I revisited them.

Tomorrow's Harvest is an amazing album. Everything they've done is. Even if takes another 8 years for them to put out the next album, I'm sure it will be worth it.

Though I've never really gotten any evil vibes from them. A lot of melancholy and regret, but not evil.
>>
>>17046308
Boards of canada has been one of my favorite bands for a while. When I used to get high they were my favorite band to listen and they definitely have a special section in my heart and record collection. I wouldn't say they are not evil or even occult in any way. I think they use the religious-like symbolism as a way to further the experience of their music and their art. Their have been some cultish claims about them such as their "hexagon sun" meetings and whatnot but if they hold power good for them and if they don't, we'll they're still good. You can't really gauge them without listening to their whole albums but if you want a good place to start

>LISTEN TO MAGIC WINDOW.
>BEST SONG OF THE MILLENNIUM.

>ps. Their music supposedly is able to ward off anything of ethereal qualities. Demons, angels, whatever but I don't believe in that stuff. I come to /x/ for spookiness and the occasional interesting occult topics.
>>
I literally just started this album. Woah.

Pretty phenomenal. Didn't think that music had a new universal affect other than bass and quick melodic beats.

Went from outside perspective to inside, coated in a warm egg, stomach ary with nauseousness. Air absentee. Life long lost.

That's what I felt at least after listening to about 5 tracks.

It's a free RPG maker game that really sticks with you, pretty much the precursor to Undertale (which I'd recommend) or OFF (also recommended).

If you like point/click things, I'd suggest Fran Bow, either of the Amnesia games, the first Dead Space is fantastic IMHO... I Have No Mouth and i Must Scream, another classic-- bit harder to get your hands on though.

Bloodborne, which is a ps4 exclusive I think, has some really creatively disgusting monster designs... One of which is named after tonsil stones. It's mank.

I'll try to think of more. But Space Funeral is definitely worth it, you can play it in a day easy and it takes up very little space, go for it on your current laptop if you feel like it. It's my favourite out of the ones I suggested.
