In my opinion, if you were to commit suicide you would be breaking a law. Like our world the universe is also governed by laws, suicide is never an option you should choose. Whatever it is that's bothering you, you possess the ability to solve it. To commit suicide is almost unforgivable, and you will have to answer for what you've done in the afterlife.

With no conception of time it also means that if you'll ever be reincorporated in a living being, either instantaneously, or in one trillion years, or in the next cycle when time starts anew, it would happen instantly from your subjective point of view.

You either reincarnate, or you stick around. You go to heaven after you die.

It is not recommended because you get to feel the pain of all of the people that miss you after you die, as well as experience them go through it every day of their life.

Only souls of people who have commited suicide are damned, and these souls wander somewhere between Earth and Hereafter waiting for their rescue at the time they should have died if they hadn't commited suicide.

You also won't be eternally damned for committing one single suicide, although it gets very close to it and is quite a bad thing to do. You see, souls of people who have ended their lives by their own hands put a gigantic weight (karmic faults) on their shoulders and they can not reincarnated until the same constellations or circumstances of the zodiac reappears as they were when they died. This usually means a time of ca. 24000 years (earth years) they have to spend within the Bardo-sphere or maybe on earth. Basically, after you die, you get used to not having a body, and you still experience everything around you, but without feeling.

Then an angel comes and escorts you to the afterlife, where you are judged. If you fail judgement, you get to experience life again until you die and then have to go through the process again.

Also suicide as a concept is a little arbitrary, technically we're always commiting suicide because everything we do pushes us closer towards death. Though if intent matters, the intent behind it can vary on so many levels, the only thing all suicides have in common is a desire to leave the world behind. I don't see why that's a crime- people leave environments that don't suit them all the time, and I don't see why that's wrong. If there is malicious intent behind it there is malicious intent behind it... if there isn't, then who are you to say that there is?

Suicide used to be viewed as a form of martyrdom in the Christian church, so a lot of their congregation was killing itself as a guaranteed ticket to heaven and to avoid this bullshit called living. How does time pass when you're dead? Dante wrote about souls in Hell being subject to an eternity of torture, but does every second feel like a second while alive? That can't be the case. In the Inferno, some punishments involve getting ripped to shreds or sliced to bits with swords. Well, I mean after your body is ripped up, what happens? You just stay around as a conscious pile of gore for eternity? Better than the pain of being sliced up I guess, unless the pain stays too. But then, wouldn't you just get used to it?

Or do you regenerate limbs and skin and stuff, like as the punishment happens. Every time you get your arm sliced off, it reappears only to be cut-off again?

There's something to be said about man's ability to overcome and grow used to certain things. After years of this, wouldn't a person grow used to the pain, and learn how to cope with it? Is there some sort of way the demons make it all feel like the first time every second?

Also, Dante's "Limbo", the first section of the Inferno, actually doesn't sound all that bad. He said it's basically like Earth, but you have to live with the knowledge that God exists, and that he has damned you. Plenty of cool dudes were there, normal, nice people who just didn't believe in God. I think that'd be the best thing to shoot for, honestly. I guess it would suck to die and then realize God does exist, but you didn't believe in him because you were being a little shit.

You become a gnarled black sick tree. Your corpse is left to hang from the branches in the state you left it on Earth. Demons constantly tear at your bark skin and pull out your leaves. Whenever a new wound is opened is the only chance you have to even let out an anguished cry of misery and regret.
