how do i stop getting nightmares, /x/?

i've been having nothing but nightmares for the past 3 months whenever i get more than 3-4 hours of sleep, and they stay fresh in my head the whole day

the only way to avoid them is to get less sleep which is a suboptimal solution, anyone know a better way how to fix this?
>>
Look into Out-Of-Body Experience. Get gud at that shit and kamahamaha the shit out of what ever nightmare you are having. Works for me

i keep dreaming about my ex girlfriend who ran out of my life 3 months ago, in the dreams she always comes back to me apologizing and i forgive her and we end up living together in various scenarios
then at the end of the dreams she disappears, like walks behind a wall and i go to follow her and she's not there, i look at my phone and she's not there as a contact and then i wake up with a feeling of despair and emptiness

i've been over her for a while now, and i'm even interested in someone else but whenever i have these dreams it just rips me open again
>>

I shit you not this works for me

>have frequent nightmares
>mostly those ones where you see hands or shadow people/sleep paralysis
>started praying before bed every night
>no nightmares
>test fate by not praying every now and again
>get a nightmare

Praying works

While I agree with you there's a lot to be said for something that works. It's better than using meds or lengthy counseling. It doesn't harm you anon, what does it matter what way they use to solve a problem?

Deal with the stresses in your life right now as dreams as Representative of events that are affecting you.
>>
>>16983138
I stopped having nightmares when I developed the ability to realise that I'm dreaming, or at least most of the time. From that point my preception on them changed from "absolute horror" to "lulzy satire". Anyways, you should try to make your dreams lucid. If you know it's not real, it can't piss you off.
>>
bump for interest
>>
while your falling asleep say " I will be dreaming next, And I'm gonna puch that in the face" say this till you fall asleep, simple as that. Soon your dreams will be care free.

I use to have bad nightmares.
>>
I get really bad dreams every once in a while.
>Wash sheets, pillow cases included
>flip mattress
>clean room
>organize shit and vacuum the carpet, all that junk.
>Go to the store, buy that febreeze bedding refresher spray, spritz it over sheets
Something about being in a clean room is calming. Like there's nowhere for bad stuff to lurk. Kinda helps i get bad dreams every couple of weeks. Gives me a reason to keep my shit organized.

Also, stop eating before you go to bed, lay off the caffeine, and for the love of god, do not drink apple juice before bed.
>>
>>16986733
>and for the love of god, do not drink apple juice before bed

Why?
>>
>>16986733
I had a glass of orange juice before bed last night and the dream I had seemed like some weird version of hell. It was like I was on some weird road trip that went horribly wrong and I had to repeat the trip twice before I finally woke up.

>In some school, have to pass through it to get from where I was to where I was going
>Make it through, but my friends didn't. Something was killing us as we ran through.
>Once we got out to the other side we could see a clearing and then woods with 5+ beings between us.
>They weren't very humanoid.
>Had blow darts that shot out some sort of energy.
>It would hit and stun the things long enough for us to get by.
>Finally made it to the woods, but it killed the last of my friends.
>Alone, walking, I finally come out to some Asian city.
>Wander, trying to get home. Never could.

>Reset, back at the school but now it's dark and empty.
>In a bathroom in the middle.
>Darkness in the corner, looks like metal filaments under a magnet, filaments pointed in my direction.
>Run
>I can feel it on my back.
>Make it out to clearing.
>Flash foreward and I'm at home hanging out with my brother.
The devil/Baphomet/whatever communicates to me though my brother.
>I have to go back.
>Eventually I'm forced to go back.
>This time there is no exit.
>I'm running through the halls with magnetic filaments chasing me until I wake up.

I was entirely sober the day before. Does apple/orange juice really mess with dreams that bad?
>>
I used to have nightmares every single day of my life until i was like 9 or so when I started to try self hypnosis. Have never had a bad dream since.

I used to have horrific recurring nightmares as a child. Gory, realistic, painful stuff (before I'd ever even seen my first horror movie). I'd wake up at night screaming sometimes. One day my Mum took me to a crystal shop and bought me the biggest dream catcher she could find and hung it over my bed. The recurring nightmares stopped just as though something were sorting and filtering them out.
These days, I have my own rituals when I feel a bad night coming on. Ask for protection, surround myself with a bubble of white light and create a mental box in space to contain anything that I might need to send elsewhere.
Of course, this all helps with attacks of the horrific variety. Social nightmares involving realistic interactions with people you know are often about needing some form of closure with them in the real world. The mind is an odd thing...
>>
>>16983138
I used to get nightmares recurring all the time, until I started self-inducing them myself on purpose, and eventually I befriended my nightmare characters.
>>
>>16987108
>>16987157

I have no idea. I used to drink Angry Orchard before bed and I would get the weirdest, most intense dreams. If it was a neutral dream it was ok, but goddamn those nightmares... I told my friends about it and some weird chick asked if I was drinking apple juice before bed, and said I should stop because it messes with you. I stopped, and no more weird dreams.

As far as reasoning... I mean all I can think of is either the high sugar content fucks with your brain or maybe when you fall asleep and your metabolism slows down, the juice ends up rotting/fermenting in your stomach and releases weird shit into your body? Idfk
>>
>>16987216
Reporting in.

I drank a small glass of orange juice, about a (measuring) cup's worth and went to sleep for about 4-5 hours. I know I had some dreams, but now I can't remember them. However, I don't think they were any weirder than the ones I usually have, and one of them might have even been good. Willing to repeat this experiment a few more times just for the hell of it.
>>
>>16983138
I'm not sure. Try to read before you go to sleep. It might put something else to imagine in your mind that's preferable to the nightmare

This is gonna sound childish but just sleep with the light on. It works 9/10

Also never ever watch porn. Just go to a mall and take mental photographs of girls at victoria secret or something.

After years of suffering sleep paralysis You eventually just learn to go along for the ride,

Most of my nightmares feel like I'm watching a movie or going through a haunted house on rails but everyone and then I'll run into the situation where I'm in control of my own actions.

That's the part where you have to fuck shit up, the intense fear will give you overwhelming power it is the ultimate fucking motivator and you have to use it to get fucking crazy, you have to turn it around and become the fucking psychopath that causes the nightmare, you know what I did when the "I am legend" like creature cornered me in a clock tower? I tackled that motherfucker through the plate glass and held on to it determined to take it down with me, it struggled in my arms until we hit the ground and he exploded underneath me, I got up and looked at the others covered in its blood and shaking, they stared at me and you know what happened then?

I woke up and went back to bed, had a perfect sleep afterwards

Now see if your subconscious demons want to keep you around after a stunt like that
>>
>>16983138
You have a brain imbalance caused by a mood or some shit and it's just fucking taking a form of shit like your waking sleep. I would sy cyclothymia, major depressive, stuff like that. It's cool. You don't need medication, but it helps. The paranormal is just some ancient brain shit.

Nigga you blind

Stopping eating garbage and watch what you put into your body. Greasy food will give you nightmares and so will foods that are high in tryptophan, like cheddar cheese.

If you have electronics around you when you sleep turn them off.

If none of this works then you sir have a serious entity problem In which case I recommend you tell this entity to fuck off.. If that's not the problem or it doesn't help then. Medication might.

Are there any good meditation methods to use to calm the mind before bed?

Hey, /x/. Want to help me out a bit with my dreams?

So, it all stems from this

>About 7 years old
>Going upstairs
>Turn my head slightly to the right at the top of the stairs
>Peer into dark bathroom
>Pale figure stares back at me with a wide smile
>Run down stairs screaming

The issue is that I never remember waking up, I don't ever remember that being a nightmare and it really stands out in my mind to this day.

Recently, this has been happening:

>Dream starts off as usual
>Quickly starts to scramble itself
>Begin to switch dreams rapidly, as though I'm seeing multiple dreams unfold at once
>Dreams start to seem together, everything becoming a profound mess
>Darkness surrounds me, pale white snow on the floor, a dark forest
>Like a winter forest with space as the backdrop
>Pale white figure with an upside down cross on left side of his chest appears
>Black eyes
>Skin seems leathery
>Wake up

It keeps happening, and his image is so stuck in my head. I'm a terrible artist, I wish I could draw him out for you guys.

In your nightmares or in real life, you fight to kill anything that wants to kill you. If you die at least you die with honor. I used to have horrible nightmares but since taking this attitude I rarely have nightmares and when I do I still manage to sleep a bit.

I would suggest to tell your friend(s) not to think anything negative before going to bed. I find that I have SP or a nightmare whenever I am in a paranoid mood.

If you pay attention you can come to recognize a dream. Was flying down the road with some guy in a black mustang. And he says something. And I say this is just a dream. Dreams can be so cool.

I just woke up and slept like a baby even though I was thinking in all the /x/ stuff I just read. From the back anything can get you, something might be right behind you! But you can't live your life looking over your shoulder. On the other hand if you see anything in front of you that is threatening be ready to face it (run or fight.)
