You can't travel back in time least you have some enormous crazy convoluted machine that can only transport you to when you first completed the machine. Theoretically you can travel to another parallel universe that is near identical to ours but running at slightly slower pace. There you could change shit with no ill effect since "their" future is not set.

You can't fuck up the timeline.

If you are alive enough to go back in time and kill your grandfather, there are possible scenarios:

1. He survives
2. He's not your grandfather

The grandfather paradox may not actually be real.

There is no possible way of going back in time and stopping World War 2. You can go back in time, say you're a time traveler, give them all the info you can, but the fact that the future existed where you could even do such a thing means that it happened.

You can travel in time, but you'll age appropriately. Go back and you get younger, fast forward and you age rapidly.
The fact is that the timeline corrects itself. Also it is closely monitored. Anyone going through time is tracked.
Other advanced beings can do this, but they can't really change anything. It goes back like an elastic band.

The whole point he was trying to make was that in our timeline everything that happened before now already happened. IF there is a way to go back in time, then everything you do back there already happened. Therefore, you can't change the past by going back in time and doing things, because you already did that and it didn't change anything.

The train of thought is completely correct if we work under the premise that time travel is going back into our own timeline.

But, most representations of time travel in our culture either specifies that they're actually going into a different dimension is currently engrossed in events that already happened in our timeline OR they don't explain it at all because they want people to enjoy it rather then over-analyze the concept of time travel.
