I've heard you cant really rely on the Nyaa clone(s) on seeded or unseeded information.

Torrenting is a peer-to-peer type of file sharing. Meaning you get files from multiple people at once.
Torrents are divided into small packets, a few kb each.
Leeching is the act of downloading these small packets from other people.
Seeding is the act of uploading these packets to other people
Downloading (leeching) is usually not illegal, but distributing (seeding) illegal content might have repercussions

So, why would anyone choose not to seed? I always leave it on.
Does it make one's computer slower, or something like that?

You don't need to seed and downloading an upload without seed is slower so pick downloas with more seed simple as that.
