PLEASE HELP AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

OK so my fan is making a rattling noise and I thought the bottom hit the like plate below so I tried to raise it with some tape

Problem is as soon as it touches the tape it starts making noise again, but when the fan is suspended in the air, it is perfectly quiet

So is it because the fan is shaking my entire pc??
>>
here it is when I've raised it up. the fan is completely quiet then, it is only when I insert it in the socket

Either your fan blades are falling off the rotor, there's something stuck in the fan cavity that it's hitting, or your fan't bearing is wearing out.

None of these issues are worth fixing though, because you can get a new fan on eBay for less than $10, and an entire thermal solution for less than $50.

>fan bearing is wearing out
what did you mean by that bit?

And the thing is, the fan works perfectly fine when out of the socket and works inside the socket AS LONG as it doesn't rest on anything connected to the pc

Sorry, forgot pic related.

The bearing is the only thing holding the shaft into the case, once it starts to wear, the shaft can move downwards (upwards in this picture), and bash against the blower case.

If it is the bearing it's not fixable, and again, fans are not worth fixing, just buy a new fan. In the time you've already spent fucking about with it, you could have gone to work and earned the $10 it takes to buy a new fan.

Thanks a lot for the replies! You have helped me immensely and yeah it looks like the best solution is buying a new fan. Will any fan work? It's a lenovo y500

It has to be a Y400/Y500 fan.

http://cgi.ebay.com/152098195809 . I can't vouch for the seller, but if I had your laptop and that problem, I would buy it.
