so I've finally caved in to all of my fucking weeb friends (oddly enough it seems like watching anime is some kind of normie thing...) so I'm looking for suggestions since they always recommend stupid meme anime like one piece or eva
I've liked:
-Cowboy Bebop (obviously)
-The Tatami Galaxy
-Paprika
-Paranoia Agent
-Ace Attorney (trash anime but I love the games)
I did not like:
-Bleach
-Death Note
-Neon Genesis Evangelization
-One Punch Man (why is it so popular?)
-Shokugeki (some anime about cooking)
-School days
-Full Metal Alchemist
-Gantz
Anything I should be looking out for? I kind of like more realistic animes or very stylized stuff. Really anything as long as the writing is good.
Seems like you like a lot of stuff by Satoshi Kon (Paprika and Paranoia Agent) so I'm sure you'd enjoy his other works too
I think you'd enjoy:
Kaiji
Baccano
Kaiba (made by the same guy as Tatami Galaxy)
maybe Texhnolyze (it's very slow but it pays off really well, dark as fuck)
Monster
Welcome to the NHK
FLCL

Thank you for the suggestions! A bunch of anime nerds got butthurt when I made a thread about this on /a/
I really think Kaiba, Texhnolyze, and Welcome to the NHK are going to be up my alley from their descriptions.

Because its the way it is, you should've lurked more. I know it, because I was on your /a/ thread calling you a faggot..
That's the board norm, you can't post a straight recommendation thread, because too much rec threads would clog the board where there's already a board exclusively for requests. Doesn't mean you can't post recommendation threads in /a/ mind you, you'll need to be a bit clever - there are thinly-veiled rec threads every day in /a/, you just gotta lurk on how its done.
Now, why people recommend stupid meme anime, thats because those are the usual gateway in - you on another hand went straight to the heavy-hitters, the masterpieces.

This is a good rec.
You asked about Planetes - Yes, it is a good one, recommendable.
How about some anime charts? Kinda old and not updated for years, but it still mostly checks out.
>>357960
Reminder that not each of the stuff in the charts are great overall, or suits your taste. You should read the synopsis and ask again if its actually good

I enjoyed triggering the hikkis, I was well aware of what I was doing.
and thanks for the charts too

Well, well you're fuckin aware after all, you cocksucking faggot. If you know it you should've known that fact, you should also known what kind of anime you love to jam to your pulsing ass.
Next step after you scour the old greats, you might narrow down the focus to more specific genre or niche, or broaden to newer seasonal anime. I suggest you should start reading manga as well - there are many diamonds in the rough never adapted into anime, or worse, adapted into shitty anime with cancerous fanbase.

Manga isn't really my thing. The only ones I've read are Battle Royale since I liked the novel so much and Phoenix Wright because fanboy.
I'm too cheap to buy Manga since I don't like reading on the computer so much.
OK a couple of questions:
Is The Old Man and the Sea good? Is it some adaptation of the Hemmingway novel?
Also same about the Count of Monte Cristo
(it seems like I'm into anime adaptations of literature then...)
>>357975
where/what is the count of monte cristo on here
>>357980
nice, my favourite book i think i'll give this a look at, my involvement with anim starts and ends with akira
>>357975
Old Man and The Sea is Russian. That chart isn't Japan-only.
Gankutsuou...its good with unique art. The setting moved into some Baroque Feudal Sci-Fi Space of the 50th century; but the early 2000's CGI may be offputting for some (me included)
(more charts)

>Baroque Feudal Sci-Fi Space of the 50th century
my jap metre broke holy shit this has to be the most cliche anime of all time or something.
I really hope there some many-thousand year old nearly immortal vampire/demons involved

>many-thousand year old nearly immortal vampire/demons involved
Fuck you, you've watched this didn't you? Technically not, but can be considered so or acts like one if applied in a more traditional setting.
Cliche? The setting art of this anime is one of the farthest thing from anime cliche I could think of.
>>357993
No I haven't seen it I just assume that kind of anime stuff would appear in such a setting.
If it's a decent interpretation of the classic novel I'll definitely look it up. Seems fun
>>357930
>-Cowboy Bebop
samurai champloo + planetes
>-The Tatami Galaxy
ping pong the animation + genius party
>-Paprika
perfect blue + mind game
>-Paranoia Agent
monster + gits
>>357993
but yeah, there is the titular demon however in sci-fi setting giving, but does not matter because its an adaptation from older work anyway
>>357985
this should be pinned to /a/

wow, thank you.
that's a really concise set of recommendations
