Is there an offline file converter that covers video, audio, and document formats like Zamzar but isn't adware/shareware/terribleware? If the alternative is a torrent that's fine

Not sure about documents but for video / audio try handbrake or ffmpeg (command line)

VLC does this... quite poorly, but it does it.

Use Any Audio Converter - all the MP formats AVIs blah blah blah. It asks for internet access but works 100% if you deny it. Ive had no issues whatsoever

formatfactory. warning: it will install the ask toolbar whether you want it to or not, but it's easy to delete.
