Ok /wsr/, Im not sure if this is exactly the right place for this but this is the only place I knew would help me. A while back I read a book about a bunch of Europeans who's ship crashed on the coast of Japan during, if I remember correctly, the 19th century. Upon their arrival they are immediately imprisoned in a pit and interrogated until at one point the main character is freed for his skills as a seaman. After being freed, he spends his time working with the Japanese to free his fellow crewmates from that prison, which he eventually does, and then at one point he works with the Japanese as a shipcaptain, and even gets a sword that he names oil seller. if more info is needed please ask. One more thing to note is that the book was made into a movie sometime before the twentieth century. thanks for any help
