I've played Stepmania a lot lately and I thought "Hey, playing on those mats seems really cool!". I have something like this in my basement but it won't work without some changes. It has some built-in software and should normally be connected to a TV set with an RCA connector. I want the signal to be transmitted to a computer (I took a picture of its sockets). How to do this?

Replace this board with a USB joypad.

I'm not an expert (not even an amateur) in electronics. How should I do this? Also, do I really need a joypad? I want to use the mat as a controller for a game.

you're better off buying a cheap dancemat on amazon for 10$...

- probe out pinout of rainbow dancemat connector
- solder wires to appropriate points on gamepad PCB
- ?????
- profit
You don't need a joypad if you're planning on connecting it to a JAMMA board or a sega genesis, but you aren't, so you do.
these mats are shithouse, buy the ps2 ddr mats and get a ps2 2 usb adapter.
