What's the easiest way to get rid of the background

Photoshop.

That color select thingy in the Select tab

duplicate layer and hide the original
bump the contrast (levels) on the duplicated layer
use color range selection, pick white color and type delete on the keyboard
ctrl+click the duplicated layer click (it makes a selection without the background) then click original layer and hit duplicate selection (ctrl+j)
hide the duplicated layer and save as png
