/g/ told me to come here.
Brainlet here. I have two desktops in my house, one in my brothers room, and one in mine. My brother already has a router and a modem in his room connected to cable internet. I have a cable internet wire in my room. Do I need a separate router and modem for my desktop?

That would defeat the point of having a router.
No just connect the cable to your brother's modem

So I just need a modem? If so, do I need to wire it to my bro's router in any way?

His room is on the other side of the house

Lol the modem is used before the router to connect to your ISP. The router is what provides the local network. Connect your internet cable to your brother's router and your pc and you got internet.
does the router have wifi?
