I liked Saikano an awful lot, both the anime and the manga, if you can get past the art, though I think my shock and amazement came from the contrast between the fluffy art and cute and adorable characters on one hand and the ending(s) on the other hand
It is best if you stumble across such gems and not come looking for them.
