I have laptop with 1 jack but my headset is with typical 2 jacks (pink and green),today I bought this thing (explained it in store and they gave me that) in hope i could use both headphones and mic (previously used just headphones) but it doesnt seem to work. When I plug it in sound on headphones is a bit stronger on the right and mic doesnt work.
What to do? Is there any driver, system settings or I don't have the right one?

it seems to be the correct thing (it has 4 sections) you phone has 3 section one for phones and 2 section one for mic
maybe your laptops only jack only supports sound and not mic
maybe you should swap the plugs
I did some tests now and when I plug it in it gives me options same as when I go HD Audio Manager -> Connector Retasking:
Line In
Mic In
Headphone
Speaker Out
Headset
On Headset both I hear on both headphones good but mic doesnt work but however my friend can hear when my messages on steam/facebook are coming but can't hear me.
On Speaker Out I can hear on ONLY right headphone and mic works as intented, everyone can hear me.
On Headphone I can hear on ONLY right headphone again and can talk but its using laptop's integrated mic.
On Mic In I can't talk on neither integrated mic nor on my headset mic and I hear sounds over integrated speaker.
On Line In is same as on Mic In
>I have laptop
it would REALLY help if you'd post the model

he gave you a stereo headphone splitter, not a microphone jack.
the fact that it has a red and green connector doesn't mean anything.
if you're looking for a way to connect your headphones with mic headset, you're outta luck, unless your laptop has a headphone jack mic input.
if you're willing to spend the money, look for a headset that plugs in through usb.
looking at the acer, it looks like it might have one in the back.

>he gave you a stereo headphone splitter
it has 4 sections; left right mic ground
a splitter would have left right ground
push it all the way in then slowly pull it out while listening the the sound coming out. sometimes they make the plug stick out too much. there might be a spot the the audio sounds okay and the mic works.
