Done by hand with a photoshop brush.

I didn't fur him completely because it looked kinda too much

This is my first time doing fur. I've done hair before but not fur.

It's pretty good for your first time. But I believe you lost some contrast there. The shadows aren't dark enough and there are no highlights. Feels a lot flatter and doesn't contour to his body as well as it could.

When making it I tried adding shadows and highlights but I just couldn't quite get it to look right and had already spent an hour on it.
So I didn't bother to add them and instead made the opacity of the fur layer 85% so some of the lighting shows through.
But yeah it does look kinda flat.
