I kinda like MPV, but it is pretty hard to switch over from VLC to MPV

that said, you can do some stuff in MPV that you'll wish you could do in VLC

VLC. many many years, never glitched. Really don't know what you're talking about.
Media Player Classic as second and backup one. But in the end it is pretty much always VLC again.
