the cpu still need its cooler (heat spreader + fan), and so does the gpu, if that is what you are asking (the heat need to be taken away from the parts, not from inside the case, to avoid overheating and thus throttling)

So i spent all night overclocking my FX 8120.
Stock: 3.1GHz
OC: 4.5GHz
It is my first attempt of ocing. I had to fight the heat of the VRAM with the 80mm fan ontop of the graphicscard. Also made a push/pull sytem out of my cpu cooler.
Pretty fun.
