i tried, but the shadow has soft edges, which makes it difficult to select. we can see the area where it gets darker, but i can't see a way of telling photoshop that it's darker in that spot and only slightly darker at the edges and to leave the rest of the picture alone. it would need some form of graded selection which, as far as i know, is not yet a thing.

Refine edge >> Feather can do it but it's really hard to get it right.
Also the dark areas are black and white so you would have to recolor
them by hand. Guessing this is a sample image and the author really
didn't want anyone to steal his work.
