I've been learning Polish on Duolingo (which is a free app) for the past two months, and I have moved from saying stuff like "Przeprasm" and "Dzien dobry" to small, yet decent volcabulary.

I can also understand bits and pieces of what native Polish speakers say in conversation.

Duolingo has Japanese, but I'm not sure hwo much you would get out of it with Japanese having a completely different alphabet. I have been tempted to look at Japanese, but I have too many friends who are suspect that I am a weeb.

Last but not least, don't waste money on Rosetta Stone. It is like pulling teeth, and, doing it for five years of school in lieu of a language course, it is excruciatigly slow-paced. In fact I learned more from Duolingo, web resources, and native speakers with my Polish than wit all of my time on Rosetta Stone.

I used Duolingo for a bit and it just isn't helping me as much as I would like. It's great for vocabulary, but when you want to move beyond that, you have to start using the community aspect of it and it gets a little confusing beyond that point.
