Can anyone tell me if it is possible to create an excel SEARCH function so that is checks the cell using a list of possible matches and then returns which item on the list it found a match for?
I have something like 500 different things I need to substitute in 500 more cells containing text snippets of varying lengths and I'm so not going to write 500 different cells worth of functions to check the cells individually.
Like:
=SEARCH((find_text; within_text; [start_num])
But with:
=SEARCH((LIST OF THINGS; within_text; [start_num])
without it returning #VALUE! error.

VLOOKUP.
More specifically I have several hundred cells with text snippets of varying legths, and the snippets may or may not contain numbers from 1 to 500. I need to replace all values between 1 and 25 with "A", 26-50 with "B", 51-75 with "C"... etc. etc.
Is it possible with excel?

almost everything is possible with some VBA code

But how can I do it in this case?

Sure, just use nested IF statements.
If your nesting is severe as fuck, use a bit of Python or similar to generate it, then paste the formula into Excel.
