Are there any good alternatives to Photoshop out there? I need a free image editing software that's fairly simple to use, akin to Macromedia Fireworks, is there anything good like that?

Thanks, I think I've tried this one before, but I'll give it another go. As long as I'm able to work with different layers of images

gimp is a solid program just not as user friendly as PS
I'll throw in a mention to Paint.NET

This
Has layers without the big learning curve of gimp

gimpshop is gimp but more user friendly

older versions of PaintShop Pro do more than
the GiMP, and easier to use:

pixlr? its in-browser too, so if you need to kill time on a brainlet computer its bretty great

Requesting something thats a bit more "up-there" in terms of power of the program, it would take me a very long time to make a convincing shoop in the software I know
Just snatch an old portable version of Photo shop of TPB???
