This probably doesn't deserve its own thread but I'm not sure where else to ask
In Simple Plan's "Untitled" song (How could this happen to me), what are the lyrics actually supposed to be focusing on? The point of view of a remorseful drunk driver, or the point of view of a family member to the dead victim?
The music video just shows a chick being killed and a dude going to jail while the family cries on. But the lyrics talk about erasing the things he's done and going back to a time when nothing mattered.

It seems to be focused on the viewpoint of the victim of drunk driving. From songfacts:
>This song was written about people who died in accidents due to drunk drivers and the heartbreak that people experience due to the death of their friends. It talks about how you can sometimes feel at fault for things that happen.
But, as many songs are, it can also be up to your own interpretation.

That makes a lot more sense, thanks anon. With how the song is always used for unfortunate things happening to an individual, I thought it might not be from the viewpoint of a victims family/friends/acquaintances but the feeling at fault for things out of your control adds it up
