Have you watched Re:zero? It's kinda mainstream but also very good.

The first 2 or 3 episodes are kinda slow but it picks up very fast

I actually recommend watching some worse Shounen before HxH, because it is so good it will ruin the genre for you. There is just no other shounen show that can compare, in my opinion not even its predecessor Yuyu Hakusho.
