Could you guys please fill out this survey for me? It's a research about the use of internet expressions and acronyms for a course.
Should take you less than five minutes. Thanks in advance!

Gonna bump a few times with wallpapers, and some other random shit.
i assume you already know this but you should take into account for your research that 4chan is a very specific group of people with a very specific social etiquette that will not be a good representation of the average person using internet expressions.

Yes, I have groups outside of 4chan to fill this out as well. But I also need a sample of people who have a deeper acquaintance with the internet culture and who have spent a sufficient amount of time there. Also, it doesn't really have to be a large scale research, as long as we have a related topic and do some actual empirical research.
I'd use some control questions. Like asking the same twice or "Uncheck this if you answered everything truthfully". Yadda yadda yadda.
Especially on online surveys.

That's a good idea. Although, I tried to keep it short and simple. After all, I have only 10 minutes to present this, so not a lot of time for much data. For now, I'll just work with what I'm given.

You should include a clarification for ironic use. Most of us probably only use a couple of them genuinely and the rest are used to take the piss out of people who do (e.g. ROFL, omg, eggs deee)
Also, as a side note, how can anyone decry modern text slang when e.g., i.e., and other such Latin acronyms have been so widely accepted in the English language for centuries?
>>253291
Thanks mang.
I was thinking about including a question about that, but I figured that is too specific for 4chan, and someting that Facebook people don't often do. Also hey, use is use, be it ironic or not.
To answer your question, probably through tradition people have grown accustomed to them. And also, Latin is a language used strictly in formal disciplines, and internet acronyms are pleb-speak in comparison. Though, after a few decades it might surprise us where they'll go. They're already blowing up into irl
i like surveys :)

Awesome! Thanks a bunch!
Does social media include imageboards, forums and news website comment sections?

Linguist here, always glad to help someone with their survey. Our work would be much easier if more people filled them out.
>>253322
I wouldn't say so. I had in mind sites where social aspect is the main focus, so things like likes, shares and hanging out with people, as opposed to discussion about a certain topic. Basically, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and alike.
>>253324
Yea, man. Now that I've actually started doing it I understand how hard it is to find people to fill out your shit.
>>253333
>>253322
Oh yes, and sites that have a friend/follower kind of system.
bumpin once more
>>253227
Only acceptable answers.
You're welcome, senpai.
>>253227
out of curiosity, could you share some of the results?

Answered the survey.
I'm interested in this as well.
Interested to see how this turns out. I hope your research goes well, pal. Good luck.

Will do, later today, when I close the survey. Thank you guys!
Finished. Post the results later, OP.
BTW, can 4Chan.org/b be called social media?

Here's the results for your guys, and anyone else who might be interested.
Thanks again to everyone who participated! You've really helped a great deal.
And no, I don't consider 4chan as a social media website. I'd clasify it more as a forum-like website, as it does not have a friend system, there are no likes/dislikes and the boards (with the exception of few) are dedicated to dicussion about specific topics. Although, one can always argue against this.

Also, keep in mind that this wasn't a 4chan-exclusive research because many of the responses are from people who don't visit this site and have likely never heard of it.
