Oi, need help here with my laptop.
I have to replace my hdd because it's broken. I have no experience with this and I ask you which hdd I should buy and if I can change it with a ssd instead.
The laptop in question is an old Samsung rv520 with i5 Nvidia GeForce etc.
Thank you kind anons
Pretty sure all you need to do is switch the drives right?.
I think any SSD that is 2.5 inches will switch out easily with the hdd already in there.
Looks like you can add a second drive replacing the CDrom by doing what this guy did in the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drr6nFMtIZ4

Seems cool. But I think I'll keep the cd player. So I just need an ssd that is 2.5" right? What about this SATA thing?

yeah you need to check the interface of the laptop. open the drive bay on the laptop and look at if the HDD is connected by SATA or IDE. it's one or the other. If it's IDE you might need a IDE drive and might have to get a HDD.

This video looks like the connection to the drive is SATA.

If it's IDE, your best solution is an SSD and a $10 PATA/mSATA or PATA/M.2 enclosure.
They don't even make PATA drives anymore, so any SSD you get will be larger and cheaper.
Thank you all.
