Just got this graphics card NVIDIA geforce 8400 gs 512mb ddr3
I have a HP compaq 8000
Intel core 2 duo CPU E7500 @ 2.93 GHz
4GB RAM
and 64 bit for some reason

However the issue is as soon as I turn it on with the graphics card inserted, there is no display whatsoever,
I can hear the PC start up and do it's stuff though
I have tried all possible ports to get an image, the VGA port on the new graphics card doesn't say no display, like the other two, but just shows a blank screen,
I assumed because I don't have the drivers, however I can't install the drivers unless the graphics card is inserted
Am I missing something?
Any advice is appreciated

1) 8400 is a fossil, and was underpowered and crappy even when it was new
2) 8400 needs power through the ATX power connector; if you're using a 20-pin instead of a 24-pin, it won't get enough power.
3) many 8400s were low-profile, with the VGA port connected to the card by a ribbon cable. This meant you could use a single full-height bracket, or a double low-profile bracket. If you've got a half-height card, make sure the VGA port is properly plugged into it.

In general, a working video card should get you to the BIOS setup screen, regardless of any driver or OS you have. If it can't do that, it might be broken.

Thank you for the reply
1, I'm a poorfag
2, No idea the difference between the two
3 I did have to remove the steel peice to fit it in, and the cable is properly connected
The pc will load up properly, I can here the "dun dun! dundundun" thing it does on startup, just no display no matter what I do

One has 24 pins and one has 20 pins.

However, Google tells me your computer has neither, because Compaq put their own weird power supply in it.

Thats why I was confused by that then...
So what does that mean exactly?
That I can't use this card?

Where did you get it from anyway?
Did it ever work?

A pretty trusted guy
Haven't seen it working myself though
