Is there a media player or any other kind of program that can play slideshows that include both images and gifs? VLC and Windows Photo Viewer only display the first frame of the gif, and GOM Player can play gifs just fine, but doesn't play slideshows as far as I can tell. Any recommendations?

Try MPC (Media Player Classic). Not sure what do you mean about slideshows but I can view .gifs and .webm on MPC.
