Hi /wsr/
I'm a reference for a friend who is interviewing for a technical job that specifically asked for both professional and friend references. I have to rate certain personality traits (pic related) on a scale of 1-10. If I give him all 10/10s do you think that would ruin the credibility of my reference? Should I lower some of the scores to make it seem more realistic? I just feel like anything less than a 10 would raise some red flags. This is my first time being a reference for someone.
This is easy - just ask your friend what he wants you to do (since you're already willing to put all 10s).
This way if they don't like the reference for whatever reason it's not on you.

Of course it would, though it is odd that they want a friend reference. Like above anon said, it's probably best to ask him

If I'm honest there would be a couple 8s. I know he wouldn't want to be involved in what I put since he's an honest person, so I think putting what I really think is fine since I already would be giving him good scores

then go ahead
I would definitely lower a couple. Even if you're just being honest, it comes across as quite fishy.
