I love the way gunfights and violence are handled in Eva, it feels so striking and brutal, and the fact that it affects the characters was great.
Since i'm not a elite /a/utist i have not seen any other anime where the violence has this kind of striking sense of "realism" in the way it affects the characters. And also the violence always felt really cold and actually had an impact.
Bonus points for character development.
Also, it doesn't need to be Mecha.
OP: This AMV is pretty much a compilation of things i liked in Eva if that helps https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMbBjnmAmQE

But you probably already watched that.
I just started watching Alderamin on the Sky, and though its not apparent immediately, you'll find what you're looking for on the fourth episode. I've only watched the dubs, which are up to the sixth episode, but I've got high hopes for the rest of it.

>Elfen Lied
I hope you're joking.
There's nothing brutal about a loli getting her limbs torn off, that's just cringeworthy edgy.

srsly tho it was one first series i watch back when i was 14 and the first
episodes really made an impact on me specially with the opening music and the 'edgy-ness' it was pretty great watching it with friends at midnight
also i was reading op description and i really though it was a fit
>cold brutal violence that affects characters plus character development
