i just want my computer to detect my fucking thumb drive.... i have reasons to believe it's a driver issue

If you have another flash drive, plug it in to make sure that it isn't the usb port itself.
Try another port.
If you haven't already, reboot and see if that fixes things.
Check the manufacturer's website for drivers, never rely on Windows to pull up the latest ones for you.

check BIOS/UEFI settings of your machine. in rare cases of power shortings, low cmos battery etc it is possible that the system deactivates usb ports.
also verify the thumbdrive is working normally on another machine
