Battle Engine Aquila is a similar title also on xbox (I think it's also on PC as well).

Similar concept- part mech part flying machine. However, it's first person and flying mode is not indefinite and needs to charge up.

If it's the mech, the mech warrior games on xbox are all pretty good.

The fast action gameplay with a good amount of difficulty - could be harder tho - and the ability to change between the mech and jet/plane form.
I suppose I liked the difficulty and "swarm" of enemies on my screen. One thing I disliked on it was the short campaign and missions.

Try Otogi and Otogi 2- interesting maps, large not so much but it is a shining example of what hack and slash action should be. Though it is only on the original xbox.
