Can anyone tell me how to check to see if my computer is connected

I'm using windows. I have 8.1 installed

Do you know the servers IP address?
type

ping *servers IP*

into a command prompt window

If you see packets recieved it means the server is at least on the same network

That just tells you whether it (probably) *can* connect, not whether it has or is connected.

Again, that tells you if it *can*, not if it *is*.

What exactly are you trying to do?

If it pings and the subnets match there shouldnt normally be any trouble doing whatever you're doing unless its something where the server is set to only talk to specific internal IPs.
