The only reason why people advocate manga over anime is because they are laboring under the mistaken belief that manga is cool and underground, when in fact it's more mainstream than anime.

I sometimes read Manga because there just aren't any more Anime of the genre I want to watch left. And once I've depleted the Mangas, I move on to Light Novels.

If you've watched a lot of Anime or want to satisfy a specific taste, there sometimes just isn't another way other than switching the medium.
