Alright, wsr, this may be tough. I got this book from my Grandfather and I'm wandering what it was. It looks to be chinese maybe? I've got a few more pictures.
The small text on the side.
And some text on the edge of the book.
>>206024
There is text in the middle, but it's the same as the front.
>>206034
Next page.
That was the page after the inside cover btw.
>>206035
This next page has 4 images.
3 for the main text blurbs and one for a bit of text on the side. Stopped taking pictures there because the cover was falling off.

>>206039
This is the text on the side.
The cover says "詩歌", a book of Asian poetry.
>>206043
Yeah, I had it on /b/ also. Apparently the text at the bottom left is "Provisional Edition."
I also quickly realized that the text on the side is the same as the front.

bottom right*
It's Chinese, traditional writing, so it could be from Taiwan or Hong Kong, or possibly pre-communist mainland China (if it's old enough). The handwritten part in >>206034 is probably the name of the book's owner.
>>206074
That's pretty awesome. I wish I had asked my grandfather more questions about all the stuff he had.
Might take it to an appraiser just to find out what it is. Maybe give it to a museum if it's interesting enough for them to take it.

Are you sure it's grapefruits though? Understand that the Chinese often confused certain fruits and the English translations are a bit skewed. I think it says Starfruit. Which means there's a good chance it was written Pre-Communism.
>>206112
He stayed there a little while after the war.
Forgot to add that.
>>206106
楊桃 (Or Yángtáo) isn't spelled like that.
Also realize that Starfruit had be outlawed (The same way booze had been outlawed in the US) for several centuries.
The Chinese did not taste their first Starfruit or Grapefruit up until the 20th century.
This is when 清無惡 controlled a majority of power. With his rule, he brought about many foreign fruits attributing to China's brief fruit related golden age.

Read up.

WRONG, the historians been denounced the myth that the Starfruit hadn't been a prominent thing in China. In Ancient China they ate Starfruit all the time.

I think you're getting Carambola confused with Durian. Carambola actually contains about the same amount of potassium as Durian.
Which is why people confuse them, but they're completely different in physical properties.
>>206120
>I think you're getting Carambola confused with Durian
I know what a Durian is and I know what a Starfruit is asshole. Do your research about Ancient China before you go spewing FABLES.
>Carambola actually contains about the same amount of potassium as Durian.
Source? Carambola has a lot more potassium than Durian this is a fact.
>Which is why people confuse them, but they're completely different in physical properties.
As stated before I know the difference. Research is key.

>Carambola actually contains about the same amount of potassium as Durian.
A durian has more potassium than a banana.
