SMPlayer with MPV as engine.

Its basically MPV but with a better GUI (it even has a MPC Theme), it can also run Mplayer as engine.

MPV for linux, MPC-HC with MadVR + Xy-subfilter for windows.

This. mpv works but it's a very poorly wrapped product, it doesn't even have official builds, and the third party builds and GUIs lack basic features. mpv is what Windows Player would be if it was on early alpha. The way to go on Windows is MPC-HC + madVR.

What's wrong with simply using MPC-HC with LAV filters and DirectVobSub?
